i'm a massive fusion fiend.... all the usual suspects (alan holdsworth, frank gambale, Tribal Tech, bill connors, mike stern, etc.), as well as tons of not as well known acts (Fragile (jp), Scott McGill, Terje Rypdal, Nguyên Lê, etc.).... and have done a fair bit of engineering in the genre, especially back in the mid to late 90's. lot's of you guys, i'm sure, have only become aware of me as a producer/engineer/mixer since the last few years... but i've been at it some time now, nearly 15 years... just didn't focus on metal as much.

here's some clips from a couple of fusion albums i recorded in the late 90's...

the first one is called Vital Tech Tones, feat. Steve Smith, Scott Henderson, & Victor Wooten:

the second one is called Show Me What You Can Do, feat. Steve Smith, Frank Gambale, & Stu Hamm:

thx to youtube's shit compression the sound is quite mangled.. but you get the idea.

Man, that's awesome. I've listened to those records for years, but I never realized you were associated with them. Vital Tech Tones was amazing.

James, how many kick drums did you have to go thru with Steve Smith. The reason why I joke about this is because all videos I see and audio I hear of him, the bass drums is massive and sounds like he's kicking it in the gut. But in general, Steve Smith is too awesome.

My favorite fusion band by a huge margain

The phrasing in this song, Point Omega, is some of my favorite of Poland's.

Chris Poland never got to show his true potential and talent until he started the Ohm project with Robertino Pagliari (who is an amazing bassist).
Truly one of the greats of virtuoso electric guitar

Well this may be outside of the parameters but I like this CD from Sean Malone:

A bit like the softer side of Gordian Knot, which I guess could also be mentioned:

i have 2 of 7for4's CDs and really dig them.... "Contact" and "Time".

you ever hear of the German Fusion group Panzerballett? i LOVE that band...

It´s great, that you like 7for4, James! :) "Contact" is my fave. Wolfgang has shown me some of his crazy techniques, it´s a shame I forgot some of this really unique stuff.

"Panzerballet" is phantastic! And if you ask me, this band´s name is one of the coolest German bandnames ever
