i remember reading about it first in like 2000 or something.

but i understand, it's one of those books where there's not a lot that can be left out, but to do it all would be a 5 hour movie. you could leave out all the Peter and Val stuff and all the parts about the desk game, though I'd love to see that stuff, and it would still be as long as LOTR.
