Remedios Cruz joined the Marine Corps in 2013 as a supply clerk. One year later, she completed infantry training, and in 2017, made history when she became one of three females to join 1st Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Now, Cruz is awaiting separation from the Marine Corps after pleading guilty to maintaining a romantic relationship with a subordinate.
Cruz, 26, eventually married the person, who was a lower-ranking Marine in her unit, according The New York Times.
“The biggest mistakes I’ve made in the infantry were from my personal relationships,” Cruz told the Times. “I really want to move on.”
Cruz was reduced in rank from sergeant to corporal and restricted to the base after pleading guilty to fraternization as part of a broader plea agreement. The commanding general of 2nd Marine Division will now decide if she will be forced out with an other-than-honorable discharge, according to the Times.
“Regardless of the outcome of this case, Corporal Cruz has been a courageous pioneer for women in the military and she has earned a place in Marine Corps history,” Cruz’s lawyer, Capt. Jacob R. Johnston, said in a statement to The New York Times.
I think you were looking for Mort's thread.
Does anybody know any good documentaries focusing on military tactics? I've been watching a few lately but just kinda winging it on Youtube. I was watching one on the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan last night which had a good deal about guerilla tactics and the Mujahideen but this is all decades old stuff, I'd like something a bit more modern. Post-1990's I guess.
Anyone know anything about the special forces track?
I can't tell you anything specific, but I can tell you I've known several dudes who were far more fit than myself (and I'm in pretty decent shape) who tried and they all failed out for either physical or mental reasons (and I'm including not passing screeners as well as mentally quitting in that). It's selective as hell and then when you're in it's no picnic either. You have to want that shit with your whole being and pass all the screening and not get broken in the training.
If you want a decent career just go officer in the branch that performs the general mission you are most interested in and offers a job you find specifically meaningful.
I've also considered signing up but I'm getting near the upper tier of the age limitation. I have several more years for USAF though and I could also go in as an officer
If I want something, I never quit on it.
Yeah, I've considered that as well. I'm thinking of enlisting to try to do the SF track and then go to OCS if I fail somehow.
