OMG, the new Mars Volta has me sitting hot in my pants. De-Loused was amazing in itself. The new one...OMG. I haven't been this anxious since before A Crow Left Of The Murder came out.

YES!! Frances the Mute is FUCKING AMAZING!! I've had it for a while now since it leaked, and it gets better with every listen I think. It's such an awesome album! This will definitely be one of if not the top album on my 2005 list

You both rule.

I've heard bits of FtM but I'm trying to wait until I have the album itself before really letting it sink in. Hopefully I'll be able to see them live next month, now that really would make my year.

Jeff Buckley - Everything he ever recorded (best vocalist ever period)

Fawkin hell yeah! Grace goes down as one my all time favourite albums, gonna have to listen to it again now you've reminded how great it is.

Some of my favourite non-metal artists are Grandaddy, The flaming lips, Mansun (NOT marilyn manson!), Radiohead and Muse.

Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss have to be mentioned. And Jimmi Hendrix.

Please give me more info on Kraftwerk:
Is this the ex-ddr (ie german) elektro band that has a song with a title somehow like "autobahn"?
If this is indeed the same band and all their songs are like that i really have to be a joke-pop-band. Who needs lyrics that say nothing except "we drive, drive, drive on the motorway"?

I'm looking for something similar to Puissance and Windham Hell - bombastic, 'neoclassical' (what is that, anyway?) and preferably melodic. Anyone?

I've only heared Zoetrope by Lustmord (never really been into ambient, heh). It's ok but not my thing really. What are other good albums he has done?

Puissance is not metal but they sound very close to Windham Hell. Back in Control does, at least. I believe there should be more artists playing something similar to that and that classical influence in modern music is not limited to Symphony X abusing Beethoven.

And if not that... at least, you know, 'intelligent' non-metal music. Something unusual, I don't know, you're the expert ;)

I've just got into Autechre, it's repetitive electronica with absorbing subtly changing melodies and rhythms, gives a strong feeling that it's wrapping you up in itself. The already mentioned Lustmord are interesting, I think people call them dark ambient but honestly, I'm not too hot on non-metal genre tags. Tangerine Dream also seem cool but I've not heard much.

When I'm listening to non-metal, there are four things that matters: Eric Clapton, Nick Cave, Minor Majority and Nick Drake. I don't understand electronic music at all. Even Burzum stopped making sense to me...

Wow. I guess I have a pretty limited music taste. The only non-metal music I like are a few hardcore, punk, and Industrial bands.

GBH
The Exploited
Discharge
Propagandhi
Shai Hulud
Candiria (not the new CD though)
old VOD
Sick Of It All
KMFDM
Laibach

I really hardly like any non-metal anymore.
