I recommend Bal-Sagoth to any seeking epic symphonic blackish metal. Great stuff and a great gateway band for anyone seeking to evolve into more extreme music.

Epic progressive power metal with good crunch and complex arrangements...I would think most who like Symph X would dig this band. Their debut was released last fall and it's an amazing piece of work, highly recommended.

I actually havent heard much of them, but the stuff I have heard is pretty cool. The crazy part in apocalypse 1470 is just INSANE!! And yeh I guess they are more jazz. Didn't think of them to be perfectly honest.

You should definately check out their album 'Moonbabies' and 'Live From Oz', both albums are absolutely incredible! 'Universe' is alright, but you get all the best stuff from that album on 'Live From Oz' anyway, plus the 'Atlantis Trilogy' (which has that apocalypse section). They also have a new album coming out this year called 'Quantum' which should be amazing!

I've already mentioned Planet X, also, you should check out 'Collins/Wardingham Project' which is Grant Collins on drums and Paul Wardingham on guitars, both who are from up your way, in Queensland... Another would be 'Vital Information' with Steve Smith and Frank Gambale...

VTT2 is the best I think. Also, try on the virg - serious young insects and gordian knot - emergent. Both excellent fusion cds.

I've got the self-titled Gordian Knot. Progressive metal is so awesome. I love Progressive metal and neo-classical rock. I am awesome. Tony McAlpine sucks. So does Paul Gilbert.
