No lie I have a friend who at 16-17 was playing this better than Chris here. Sadly he slacked off a long time ago lol....both still way better than me.
Reminds me of a line in Bad News (that comedy we talked about yesterday) where Adrian Edmonson's character Vim Fuego is talking about his brilliant guitar skills and justifies it by saying he was playing Purple Haze at the age of 16 but Jimi didn't write it until he was 23 which make him better than Jimi. At the same time he talks another hit song he wrote called Imogen which had the lyrics, Imogen all the people, Imogen if you can.
I'm not sure about ripped off but there is definitely similarities.
Bad News was obviously a comedy piss take from the start, there was no mistaking that, whereas Spinal Tap I think they wanted people to take it more seriously. The budgets were probably different too, but the cheapness of Bad News makes it funnier. I also think that Bad News, as terrible as they were, as stupid as they were, had an appreciation for the music and weren't just in it for the money, therefore it has less of a set up feel.
Oh and the Bad News album was definitely more listenable
