The Thread Where You Talk About Music You Like

I've just realized this...but 1992 has got to be the best year for death metal ever. Look at this lineup of full-lengths released '92!!:

Afflicted - Prodigal Sun
Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus
At The Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Bluuurgh... - In My Embrace
Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade
Cadaver - In Pains
Carcass - Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious (despite being overrated, really quite seminal)
Cemetary - An Evil Shade Of Grey
Cenotaph (Mex) - The Gloomy Reflection Of Our Hidden Sorrows
Deicide - Legion (I don't like it but, yet again, pretty important overall...)
Demigod (Fin) - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Edge of Sanity - Unorthodox
Fester (Nor) - Winter Of Sin
Fleshcrawl - Descend Into the Absurd
Hypocrisy - Penetralia
Impetigo - Horror of the Zombies
Lemming Project - Hate And Despise
Miasma - Changes
Monstrosity (US) - Imperial Doom
Seance (Swe) - Fornever Laid To Rest
Sextrash - Funeral Serenade
Sinister (Hol) - Cross The Styx
Torchure - Beyond The Veil
Transgressor - Ether For Scapegoat
Unanimated - In The Forest Of The Dreaming Dead
Vader - The Ultimate Incantation

Holy crap!!

Holy crap!!

1992 was definitely the peak of death metal. The only one of those I haven't heard is Transgressor's Ether For Scapegoat. Could you give a description?

I'm listening to Torchure's The Essence and it fucking rules. As good if not better than the debut.

Holy crap!!

Let us not forget:

Atrocity - Todessehnsucht
Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
Purtenance - Member of Immortal Damnation
Unleashed - Shadows in The Deep

Also the Altar/Cartilage split, which was released in 1992, is almost too good to ignore.

What is the Bluuurgh... like?

Slow, heavy, sometimes a bit faster death metal from a pretty much legendary underground Japanese death metal band. More solid guitar tone than Bolt Thrower, think of it that way. It's good stuff.

Can anyone suggest some non-"extreme" (black/death/doom) bands with non-linear composition? I'm thinking something along the lines of Watchtower and Voivod, maybe

More really cool DM from 1992:
Disgrace – Grey Misery
Liers in Wait – Spiritually Uncontrolled Art
Morpheus Descends - Ritual of Infinity
Mortuary - Blackened Images
Thanatos – Realm of Ecstasy
Therion – Beyond Sanctorum

You should all be shot for forgetting the Therion.

Just got:
The Chasm - The Spell of Retribution (already had d/led)
Demonized (Mex) - Demonized
Desecration (UK) - Process of Decay
Lost Soul - Chaostream

I'll tell you if they're any good (other than The Chasm which rules, obviously ;)).

You...bought them?

Uh the Lost Soul is part of the NWOPDM or New Wave of Polish Death Metal which is a huge hit with nowadays death metallers...it's not bad but fuck it if they thought of anything original throughout the recording for that whole album. Still, some solid, headbangable death metal for you to rock out to.

I bought them cheaply from the vinyl exchange. Didn't know what to expect with some of them, I like surprises.
