Folky doom. Yeah, the incorporate Irish whistle and stuff to give it a folky feel, but the backbone of the music (ie the riffs) is trad doom metal.

I agree. I'm more into doomy and atmospheric death metal and listen to a lot of death metal without blast beats also.

Ah, most so-called progressive metal annoys the hell out of me. Too much wanking and lacking substance in general I'd say. However I haven't checked out Shadow Gallery so this might not be a fair representation of them.
