It gets hated on for its production and over-the-toppedness (live orchestra, digital vocals etc.). I think it's a solid album. Nothing I'd really dig, but nothing to be scorned.

k, so tbh Im really digging Death Cult Armageddon. I dont understand the hate tbh. Songs like Allehelgens Dod Helved Rike own mannnn.

the new stuff isnt even black metal.
it sucks.
its really mainstream, and most true black metal fans hate it.
i think dimmu borgir totally forgot what black metal is about.

not about production quality, and being popular.
its about universal misanthropy, and brutal music that fucks the mainstream.
which is exactly what dimmu borgir is not.

Does it have to be?
it sucks.

By what standards?

its really mainstream, and most true black metal fans hate it.

Many true black metal fans hate myriad genres of music, so does that mean that most music besides that sucks?
Heaven forbid they evolve!

not about production quality, and being popular.

Again, it was never their intention to stay true to the basic aesthetics of Black Metal "culture" (kvlture?).

Dimmu's music got more brutal with each consecutive album, and the lyrics have always been the same.which is exactly what dimmu borgir is not.

Dimmu Borgir also dumbed down a lot of their musical elements over time and focused more on drowning things out with cheesy symphonic parts than making metal songs, and the vocals on their recent releases are hilariously bad.

i'm not going into detail about what the fuck dimmu is about.
all i'm trying to say is new dimmu is way too mainstream, and i think the old material rapes it.
therefore it sucks.

and more brutal?
hah.
opera vocals, and badly played keyboards and samples are so br00tal.

Yes, but on premises that are not even relevant any more. Dimmu Borgir deserves scorn because of the latent undercurrent of hypocrisy, which at this point is the gimmick on which they have built their entire career.

But god dammit, we've been over this a score of times.

I tend not to view it in terms of popularity, marketing, and gimmicks. I just enjoy the music for what it is, and nothing beyond that. That's the mindset that has allowed me to not be ashamed of liking Dimmu Borgir. I just find it to be a stupid argument to say that the band sucks because they aren't Black Metal. Who cares what genre they fall into?
