The Thread Where You Talk About Music You Like

I thought you said you didn't like Fairyland? Or did you give them a second chance?

The Pyramaze album Legend of the Bonecarver is a concept album. Personally I like their first album better, but all their records kick ass.

Thy Majestie's records are all concept albums, I believe. Or at least, a few are:

Hasting 1066 (about the Battle of Hastings)
Jeanne d'Arc (about Joan of Arc)

A lot of power metal bands do concept albums, but I'm trying to think of large, bombastic bands like Rhapsody (since you specifically referenced them).

i gave them a second chance (fall of the empire)

it's terrific, actually. i'll check out the rest because you are the go to guy when it comes to power metal. i'm gonna definately check out the joan of arc thing because next to bathory she is the coolest ever

If you like Fairyland, Kur, you might check out Dark Moor (Fairyland is actually a side project of one of the guys in Dark Moor). They don't do concept as much, but they do have a large, symphonic power metal sound.

Freedom Call is cheesy power metal that have a running concept through all their albums (like Rhapsody), but they're unbelievably cheesy. Not sure if you'd dig them.

As far as epic power metal concept albums go, I'm mad psyched for the new Wintersun.

slow down, killer

i am trying to get the majestie album right now. i'm listening to gwar in the meantime. haha gotta love guilty pleasures. ok, ready to check out the joan of arc thing.

yeah, thy majestie is pretty much exactly what i was looking for. my only problem is tat it's so over-produced. it's gonna blow my speaks. awesome call, though. are they french?

If I didn't list the bands I think of when I think of them I'd forget to. That's why I kept going. Thy Majestie is actually Italian (same as Rhapsody).

Kur don't waste your time, Rhapsody(old) is the best euro PM band. Nothing comes close.

Shut the fuck up, you're always biased towards Rhapsody. They're formulaic symphonic power metal. Sure, they're great; but there's a shit ton of music that's just as good if not exponentially better.

Where the hell did I say anything about the bands in question? I said that SS's first album is better than anything by Rhapsody. I didn't say anything about the overarching/holistic quality of the bands you retard. Rhapsody is probably better OVERALL considering every other SS album is meh/bad/hilarious, but Mistress Of The Shadowlight CAN and WILL kick your ass.

Fairyland
Pyramaze
Thy Majestie
Avantasia
Great band. Not really symphonic, but pretty sweet. The first album is infinitely better than the second. The third is allegedly crap.

I wouldn't go that far, but Rhapsody are pretty fucking awesome. Everything I have from them is made of win, although I still need Dawn Of Victory, Reign Of A Thousand Flames, and the one after that but before Symphony II.

I said allegedly because I haven't heard it.
I imagine it's probably pretty terrible though. Metal Opera II was pretty far downhill from I as well (although The Final Sacrifice was fucking badass)

metal opera seems like something i would be interested in

is that a good one? avantasia - metal opera 1?

i found a link so i'm gonna check it out. can someone give me a short summary about the avantasia story? i'm actually excited to hear it

If you can, listen to Sign of the Cross. It's a fuckin' killer song.

The story is a mix of fantasy and history. It's about a Christian whose sister is accused of being a witch in Medieval Europe, and he has to save her by crossing over into this alternate dimension. It's pretty far out, but the music fucking kicks ass.

EDIT: Here's Sign of the Cross:

If it wasn't for all the religious themes it'd be a disney movie.
Also, the first part of the story comes across very clearly in the music, but the latter half makes no sense at all.

haha i'm not gonna bother with the youtube thing i'm a couple minutes out on legally purchasing and checking out the album

i like witch stuff and if it leans a bit on the christian side of things i can get over that.
