One of the guys I knew from school when I was growing up has been arrested as part of the biggest doping sales bust in Swedish history. He is looking at 14 years in jail if I read correctly.

Gun culture has always been a part of American culture, therefore there are A LOT of guns all over America. They ARE NOT going away. Comparing the banning of guns in a country where there are millions of guns around to the banning of guns in America is completely unrealistic.

Also, America has always had a different outlook on 'freedom' than the rest of the world. American freedom is based on liberty/individual freedoms and not ease of life/safety. Ie: (traditionally) in America it is far more important to maintain individual rights and liberties (ie: the right to bear arms/self defense) than it is to deny these freedoms in favor of theoretical safety. This is also apparent in our traditional disdain for socialism as well; we do not place a large value on comfort/ease of life if it involves hand holding. That is a topic for another time; but it's all related.

NOW I am not saying which is superior to the other; just that perhaps you can step back and view things from an 'American' viewpoint sometimes. We are a very, very different country than the rest. Some of us love it that way; some of us want to move more towards a European sense of safety/freedom balance. It's up to the individual's opinion of course.

And of course there is always the point that the 2nd Amendment is not for hunting; it's a form of checks/balances on our own Government. I understand that it is very, very far-fetched that we will ever have to have an 'uprising' against our own government; but it is not impossible and the 2nd Amendment has been used in this way during 'modern' times ( examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Athens_(1946) ).

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

"The land of the free, the home of the brave."

We aren't addicted to guns, we are addicted to liberty. Guns, being as controversial and 'extreme' as they are are a PERFECT example of what sets us apart from literally EVERYONE else. Lovers of liberty cling to their guns because they are a symbol of just how free we are; we are allowed to have something that is considered so controversial, so 'deadly', so 'wrong', so 'scary', etc. etc by the rest of the world. And we have been allowed to do so by our own Constitution since the founding of our beautiful country; and no one is going to change that.

Firearms are the perfect symbol of freedom. It's easy to grant people certain freedoms; granting them the freedom of essentially rebellion is not easy.

It really comes down to this:

Anti-gun people want to make America a safer place; this being their idea of freedom.

Pro-gun people don't want to sacrifice certain liberties in order to make America (maybe) a bit safer (and most of them don't think it will do that anyways, myself included).

So no one will ever agree.

It comes down to this, as a pro-gun sort of fellow:

If you were a magical wizard from the land of Oz that could somehow ACTUALLY guarantee that there would be 100% less violence in America if we banned all guns; I would still tell you I don't want that. Freedom is more important.

Anti-gun arguments are the same as Christian arguments that are based in the Bible ("It's in the bible; therefore it is correct.") if I don't BELIEVE in the Bible in the first place; the argument is useless. If I don't BELIEVE in safety-above-all; your arguments are useless to me as far as gun-control goes.

Ugh. Here we go, and I'll stop. This is how I feel about the whole matter.

FIRST THING: Everyone who wants to have access to a gun SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO SO, provided they register their weapon and get state-sanctioned training..... You know, like registering cars and requiring driver's education. These are the types of guns that people can carry "on their persons".... These ought to be limited to guns made legitimately for SELF-DEFENSE. Like, not AR-33s and shit.

Are you serious? Have fun with your 1984 goals of 2013.

Also you have really not a single clue about guns do you?

SECONDLY: The gun show loophole should be closed. Every sale or exchange of a weapon should be registered. The instant background check should be replaced for new gun owners with a state-approved training course that includes a more extensive background check. EXTENSIVE.
THERE IS NO GUN SHOW 'LOOPHOLE' what you are talking about is ILLEGAL. Maybe we should make it double-tripple illegal? That'll show 'em!

Face it. It's REALLY REALLY EASY to get guns more dangerous than a handgun and those used for hunting game. How can anyone with a brain not made of Nickelodeon Gak not realize that this is a problem? GUNS ARE TOO EASY TO ACQUIRE IN THIS COUNTRY.

How can someone with a brain not made of Nickelodeon Gak not realize that the guns you are so afraid of ('OMG ASSAUL WEAPON RIFLE BABY KILLING BLACK RIFLEZ' etc.) are FAR LESS POWERFUL than 'those used for hunting game'. Please do research on firearms before you start trying to legislate them.

Seriously, I never ever say 'stupid' cliche shit like this but I just can't handle it anymore: If you don't like it, GET THE FUCK OUT. Seriously. Or at least stay in your gun-controlling, socialist-esque states. Stop trying to change the parts of America that are still American. Fuck.

I can't wait to move to New Hampshire.

AMERICAN: "I wish I was there to defend those kids..."

COWARD: "I wish my masters would have done something to protect those kids, and me!"

Also, stop beating around the bush. You DO want to change the constitution, you DON'T support what it says. There is no way around it. That would make these arguments a lot more bearable.

Stop trying to change the parts of America that are still American. Fuck.

This is bullshit, Tully, and you know it. The American experiment has worked and been successful because we have progressed. Have you noticed that as America has become bogged down due to anti-intellectualism and a democracy that guarantees we vote into office the most bland and average of our citizenry, that progress has slowed? And look at what it's done. We've stagnated in every way possible or actually gone backwards. In what sector does American NOT need to change? Safety, finance, health care?

We have always been changing and still need to.

Perhaps you didn't mean to spout this GOP hogwash about how America needs to slow down, we've been doing things well forever, let's stop moving forward. Fuck it, let's move backward to the good ol' days! But I'm fucking sick to death of hearing that kind of shit. America sucks. It used to suck. We need to make it better.

Explain to me when any of this passed progress you speak of has compromised the Constitution of the United States of America and maybe we can have a discussion.

You just want to be comfortable and safe; admit it. That's what everyone on your side of the argument truly wants.

America sucks.
Show me a more charitable nation than the United States?

I admit to knowing little about guns. I'm not a tiny-penised psychopath. But I know enough to know that something needs to be done. A LOT of people in prominent positions have changed their minds about the issue.

Because I think this, I should be forced to GTFO of the country? Well, then, so do a lot of people. Good luck with your new country spittin' tobaccar and shooting the shit out of each other. It will be fun to watch.

Also: don't give me that Second Amendment horseshit. Guns have changed quite a bit since the time of powdered muskets.

Yep. We're never going to agree on the issue.

No, you don't know enough. You have not shown that you know anything at all in fact. You come across as the type of person that would ban all Pit-Bulls because they attack people and were bread for 'nothing else besides violence!'. Who would own a pit-bull besides a 'sagging pants, tiny penised, thug' after-all?

Because I think this, I should be forced to GTFO of the country? Well, then, so do a lot of people.
That would be awesome; but that's only my knee jerk emotional reaction. In reality there are plenty of states that fit your mindest; my own included (Massachusetts). What state do you live in?

I can not fathom what reason you have to reduce the freedoms in a state like NH, which has the lowest crime-rates in the United States and some of the most free gun-laws. Please explain?

I'm not a tiny-penised psychopath.

I can't tell if you are trolling or if you are really that influenced by what you are fed by the media to actually believe that this is how gun owners are. Either way it's pretty idiotic; if trolling than you are making light of a serious debate. If not, than you are just showing your gullibility.

Also: don't give me that Second Amendment horseshit. Guns have changed quite a bit since the time of powdered muskets.

Please tell me where in the 2nd Amendment it says anything about guns? You think that 'muskets' were the only weapons that were around during the time of the constitution?
