real question: what would you expect a european black metal band to say against islam today? is there anything worthwhile to say against islam in europe? i just don't see it.

* sometimes it is, but i think "one rode to asa bay" has that market all but cornered.

I always asked myself that same question.

I guess someone would have to use either the religious perspective or the nationalist side. The former a black metal band wouldn't do, the latter I believe we already agreed should be done by punkers.

Well, at least some of the fruit of the Catholic invasion of Europe brought us some very excellent music

basically all music up to a point in the Western societies was clearly divided between the sacred and the profane, so yeah Christianism played a part

Why does a music genre driven by a search for some kind of "truth" or "purity" (or death) not recognize that Islam is just the new Catholocism (albeit much more unorganized, thus less effective)? Maybe it's because the "truth" of the ancient ways was already wiped away or concealed and buried so it no longer matters?

europe is irreversibly decommisioning all organized religion, and what's going to happen in the coming couple of decades is that the few islami immigrants are going to keep demanding mosques and tolerance for their faith & customs for a while, but eventually european islam, too, will decay into form without content like christianity and judaism already largely has. there will be no real difference between a european christian-by-birth-but-i-dont-believe-in-god and an imported third generation muslim who-also-doesnt-believe-in-god. in the face of growing adversities, islam will get more and more extreme and intolerant in the regions where it still possesses political power, before eventually collapsing on itself as people start figuring out that they can think for themselves. the middle east is obviously lagging behind in many areas, and religion is no different. what we're going to have here in europe is a personalized sense of "spirituality" where everyone decides for themselves what "god" is and it will usually be meaningless bullshit, but people need to fill that particular void with something, and if it's stupid but not overbearingly evil like christianity, then that's good enough

When the 'what is the black metal'

discussion pops up, I stick with the horny guy. Lots of artistic expressions share much in both history and execution with the traditional black metal bands' output without actually being black metal, and for the sake of simplicity, those are often lumped together.

The anti-establishment issues many rebellious youth culture groups bring up seem to be well covered above so I won't get into that. Hail satanic chaos 666 and let's be myspace buddies in latin.

so what do you make of this? some incident that happened yesterday at a WASP gig in NYC

Updated 11 MARCH 2010:

An unfortunate incident arose this evening at The Gramercy Theater in NYC that we need to let you know about. It prevented W.A.S.P. from performing this show, and caused us to disappoint many of our NY fans and friends. About 50 VIP tickets were sold to about 50 different fans for $50.00 apiece, twice the normal ticket price for this show. It turned out that part of that VIP ticket price included a meet and greet with W.A.S.P. These tickets were sold to these 50 or so fans without W.A.S.P. having any knowledge of this, let alone agreeing to this. Upon learning of this late in the afternoon of the show day , W.A.S.P. insisted that the promoter of this venue, who sold these VIP tickets to these fans, return the V.I.P. portion of those tickets back to the fans. This meant that the promoter would have had to give each of those VIP ticket holders a refund of $25.00 of each ticket. W.A.S.P. demanded that this $25.00 be returned to each of these ticket holders in cash prior to the meet and greet , which W.A.S.P was still going to do. The promoter refused. W.A.S.P. then informed the promoter unless these monies were refunded to these fans, in cash, that the band would not perform the show. Again, the promoter refused and W.A.S.P. canceled the show.

We are saddened that it had to result in the cancellation of our performance for this evening, but we believe this unfortunate situation amounts to nothing more than our fans being ripped off. We have never changed a fan for an autograph and WILL NEVER charge any fans for an autograph.

To all the fans that came to the show and were turned away, please accept our sincerest apologies. W.A.S.P. CANNOT and WILL NOT ever stand by and watch or be involved in their fans being ripped off... EVER.
