The (Un)official write anything you want page

@Vittra: hahahahahahaha
@Aurel: yeah, I was actually going to say, "don't worry. Steve Jobs will be dead soon...unless he buys himself another body"
Re: all-digital everything. It's the mark of the beast bbbllllaaarrrgggh!! Actually, I know some people who would actually say something like that. Seriously though, all-digital sucks.

what about the environmental issues of publishing all these King novels where people just read it once and toss it out?
i know, right

i think instead it would be a good idea to produce millions of units of expensive consumer electronics packed with plastics and heavy metals that go obsolete and "need" to be upgraded every second year and are made not to be repairable but disposable

maybe if paper was recyclable i would not hold this position, but alas...

books. the #1 source of pollution on our planet. stop books now. forests are not a renewable resource people.

Shut up, Brandon.
Just kidding. What exactly are you espousing? That everything be digitized? Just wondering.
Regarding environmental issues: what about all these retards who buy lead-lined mobile phones only to toss them out when a new version is released?

haha damnit. Erik, you beat me to it.
I can't believe there's actual activity on this forum. What has the world come to?

I'm not opposed to digital format at all, but I'm still too scared to go completely over. I am for the digitizing because it's easy, quick, and extremely beneficial. It would cut the cost down of products, a lot. I fully support buying media (books, CDs, Movies, TV shows, etc), and most of these things just sit on my shelfs, especially books and movies. The arguments seem to be from people that just want to keep everything the same.

However, I like having a physical copy of my CDs and textbooks, but now things like Wolfram Alpha and Wikipedia have come out, I don't think I would ever want to go to back to all paper.

You can't compare the environmental issues of books to computers, unless you'd want to live in a society without technology (which eric actually might).

thanks Apple and Itunes ... and thanks for trying to fuck up the printed book biz next with the iPad ... this one really pisses me off as I love having books around (not that I read any)

I don't bother with Apple products. Too much hassle just to get one thing, and way too much to be paying for their products.

I hardly want to keep everything the same, I do web development / marketing for a living, so I am in the middle of this stuff neck deep everyday.
Probably that's why I see that always this new stuff is a gold rush with not very well thought out consequences.
It's really mostly an excuse for media companies to re-sell old inventory once again in a new format.

cassette > cd > mp3 > itunes ... ad nauseum

same on the video end ... vhs > DVD > bluray > 3D remasters ...

and now the publishers are on the bandwagon as well.

hopefully it will also be possible for students to pirate books too, because this current bullshit where you have to buy $150 textbooks to use them for three weeks is ridiculous

there's tons of that stuff out there from what I understand for Kindle devices already.

but textbooks usually get bought and sold used a lot anyways ...

So what are the consequences of going digital so fast?

Aurel and Brandon both with some good arguments here. Keep going.
I'd jump in but I have a paper to write on health policy. Anyone want to talk about that shitz?

Throw in a couple cigars and I'm sure it's a done deal. In fact, I have a couple that I really don't feel like smoking. I'll give them to you and you can save yourself the expense.

You know the phrase "the shit hits the fan"? A friend and I are wondering if people imagine the same thing we do when we hear that. What kind of image exactly does that conjure up in your mind? For both my friend and I, we imagine that the shit flies upwards towards a ceiling fan.

The Toyota recall :loco: ... but really don't you guys feel that technology is evolving at breakneck speed mostly so the hardware and software guys can cash out every few years? (this coming from a pro marketing guy :) )

did you guys see btw Steve Wozniak's take on the story? where he claims Toyota is full of shit that the acceleration problem is a mechanical issue.
he says its some software bug ...

and now the shit really hit the fan and Toyota actually listened to him and is looking into it.

Any interest in redoing the Arse Magma site? I can pay you $36.71, a few cds, and a case of pork n beans.

 ... throw in a case of Buffalo Trace and lets talk.

haven't really done anything "metal" related except the first incarnation of the code666/Aural Music shop back when NAD was still a regular here.
and yeah, I got paid in CD's back then :zombie:

I believe this. But, I don't really care as long as they spend their money on health care. I think it's fun that the economy is one big wash cycle. They make their millions selling e-crap and then turn around and give it to me because they're fat and they smoke and they need some Viagra. Then I hoard it. Just kidding. The disparity between wealth is astounding. Really, the only problem I see with the economy is that relatively few are getting shitloads of Jew tokens while the rest of us...well...aren't. But what do we do about it? Nothing but complain....and buy the next Apple product.
