The Video Game Thread

So I finally got around to buying Oblivian. Was up to $30 now but no biggie. Have only played roughly an hour of it but without sounding too much like a fanboy, I find it fucking awesome. Probably because it's been over 5 years since I last played Morrowind so it's fairly new to me. If I wasn't a uni student, I wouldn't leave my room for weeks..

Morrowind you can probably find a nice HD reskin pack on a mod site somewhere. I think it has a pretty good cult following.
With Skyrim, I found everyone did the same thing, I would go "I did this awesome thing" and everyone else had as well. Everyone was a werewolf, everyone was married, etc etc.
In Oblivion there was so much content I never touched and I did about 2 and a bit play throughs.

I love Oblivion and I put an ungodly amount of time into playing that game. So many characters so many playthroughs...so many many hours wasted. As much as I love Oblivion I don't know if it will be possible for me to go back to it after playing Skyrim. It isn't fair for me to compare Skyrim with Oblivion since I have only played a couple of quest lines. I liked the Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood story lines in Oblivion more than in Skyrim. I also loved the Battle for Bruma at the end of the main quest in Oblivion. That said, I am not sure I would want to play an elder scrolls game without dragon shouts.

One thing I like about Skyrim is they made the menus easy to access and quick. Oblivion the menus are slower, and clunkier and the graphics aren't as good. All of the people look the same and use the same voices. Tho I played Oblivion for about 160 hours before I beat it, you get your moneys worth. I really like the haunted manor, and wrecked ghostship in Oblivion. Those are the type of things that made the game awesome. Skyrim the conversations with people have been shortened, in Oblivion you can talk to some people for at least a half an hour. I would also like them to rerelease Morrowind in remasterd HD that would be sick because that game was the most difficult one of the 3 console versions.

Did you ever explore the cave with a pirate ship inside of it? I forget the name of the cave, but I think it was North of Chorrol. I agree with you on the improvements regarding the menu.

I still prefer Skyrim. I found most of the quests to be more interesting in Skyrim than Oblivion.

I beat The Darkness last night. It was a decent game, but the controls suck ass. Story was good enough to warrant me buying the second one after I finish up a few more games.

Bought the PSN game Journey and finished it last as well. The game was MAYBE three hours in length, but it was some of the most emotionally charged three hours of gaming I've had in quite some time. Everyone that has a PSN account should buy it. Highly recommended!

There was a shipwreck on the border of some town that's the one I was talking about. I can't remember a shipwreck in a cave I might have missed that one but it's been so long since I've played it. I still have Oblivion on PS3 and it's a keeper for sure. When I get time down the road I plan on playing them again. I still have to rebuy Skyrim for PS3 since my 360 broke.

Got Silent Hill: Downpour the day that came out and was pretty sweet. Hope to get the HD Collection soon as well.
Any other Silent Hill fans in the building?

Always wanted to get into that series, never have though. Maybe I should..... The first one is on the PSN Store for like $7 or something like that.

I like the bit in the film where Pyramid Head rips her skin off.

Other than that, I think I played a demo of it when I was about 8 or 9 and it was fucking terrifying, considering I was scared of Doom and Dukenukem at the time.

It's quite good. I recommend getting the upcoming HD collection though, since the second one is my favorite and well I don't like the first one all that much.

Gah, I really don't like the movie. And oh  It's a scary game, to me at least.

 Got that right. Too bad the horses aren't very fast. Though the fact that you can level up your character's speed and make him run like an olympic sprinter makes up for it.
