The what's going on in Thrash thread

I've never understood their rhetoric, they hate for the sake of it. But to beg for a union they don't actually want is an amazing turn around and i'm not even sure they see what they are doing.

Saw that Gary Holt did an AMA on Reddit last week but I missed it. Someone asked if he would consider touring with the new iteration of Slayer that Kerry King puts together and he said no way, he will be too busy with Exodus.

Agree on all the points you made about the fickleness of the fans. I am only a casual fan of Slayer and could be wrong but have they ever really been a fan friendly band? Did they do meet and greets? Offer VIP packages or anything?

Still think they should have taken a younger band out as the opener on that last tour like Warbringer or Powertrip to pass the torch on to the next generation, but like many other 80s thrash bands they seem to have little interest in keeping the scene alive.

Interesting to hear that about Gary. I have to imagine that he was KK's first choice again for his new band.

Bands are really just in it for themselves, except for the rare exception like Cannibal Corpse who do try to bring new death metal bands that have a buzz with them on tour and wear their shirts.

I missed the AMA too, but I'm not surprised by Gary saying that, it's been 7 years or something since his own band was his focus. Why wouldn't he want to get back to that.

I agree with them taking a younger band out. We used to have a thing here in Australia where all touring international bands were required to take a local band on the road with them. So many bands got a leg up from international acts. Love em or hate them bands like KISS did this well with bands like Airbourne and Massive who are both big in Europe now. Back in the 80's it was bands like Metallica taking Mortal Sin on the road. Slayer could easily have taken bands like you suggest out on the road and shown support for the scene.

I remember reading an interview with Kerry King a few years ago and he responded to a question about the young thrash bands and he just dismissed them as lacking passion and talent. I think he even compared watching them to watching his guitar tech, haha.

I bet his guitar tech was impressed :)
TBH it doesn't really surprise me. I don't think Kerry is as arrogant as some people claim but I do think he's got an arrogance about him with certain topics. It's a pity really but there is a lot of egos in music so someone has to get the arrogance :)

I get it. I don't like a lot of the newer bands either. but there certainly are some who could have been taken out and done well. Like Warbringer or Powertrip. On the flip they also could have thrown some of the older bands that really deserve it a bone. Like Overkill and Flotsam And Jetsam.

It might be another industry accolade, probably worth little more than a RNR HOF award but Decibel Magazine has just inducted Doomsday For The Deceiver into it's Hall Of Fame. Apparently there is a seven page article in the December issue with the band members who made the album. Doesn't appear to be a way to view the article on line but a 7 page write up for Flotz can't be a bad thing.
