The what's going on in Thrash thread

I thought that Joey part was interesting too. Maybe he really was pissed at the way they treated him, and really who could blame him.

Even before this pandemic Anthrax were the kings of 'not do anything', sure they never had a break this long, but geez they've had some good breaks between albums. Although those breaks possibly seem longer because we can measure them in a time line of when they did good things :)
Yeah I wouldn't blame him at all. If I saw all the money they made with the reunion after ditching him at their height and talking shit for years I'd have been thinking f you too. I'm gonna make you all this money and then you'll drop me again. Maybe they offered him a Bill Ward contract. But then probably the reality of of him making a lot more money also kicked in lol. Purely speculation mind you. :)

No not Megadeth, but thrash. I told them they need to bring in people like Chuck Billy, Eric Peterson and AK. If they get some hipster metal singer it's done.

I realise not everyone can turn up in the doco but getting some of his old bands to play stuff would also be sensible.

It's definitely a weird situation they are in. Speculation is really all we have, and lets face it it's probably more interesting than the truth :)

There is no doubt they can still put on a decent performance. Joey sounds like a few of the higher notes might be a struggle and Scott always looks like he's struggling (physically) with whatever he is doing. But holy shit what is with the set list. I realise it's only 40 odd minutes for bands down the list but as a part of their 40 year celebration they get to play 8 songs and two of them are over used covers.....again!! These guys can't afford to make a new album, there is no where in their set list for new songs.

I don't understand why they can't break away from those covers. Why does no interviewer tell them everyone is sick of them?

Good point! Are they just lazy? Or do they really think that those two covers are better than 90% of their songs?

Haha, years back I mentioned to a coworker who was casually familiar with metal that I saw Anthrax and he asked if they played Antisocial. It has become such a staple of their setlist. It is a shame too because the band seem capable of putting on a killer show. I saw Metallica at a festival a few years back and was disappointed they played a couple of covers, one of which was Turn the Page.

I think I also figured out why they are happy to keep playing 40 min sets. I'm not sure Joey's voice would last 60+ minutes for a full tour. Kudos to the guy for doing what he does, he's 61 and can still sing those songs well, but he does struggle a bit with some of the songs when its higher and takes a longer breath.

In that 40 minutes set they also seemed to really push home the fact they were part of the Big 4. I suppose that's fair, for those who don't know about the Big 4 you'd hardy suggest a band mid tier at a concert that Metallica headlined would be part of such a thing when Megadeth headline tours, Slayer retired headlining tours and Metallica still rule the world.

Especially towards the end of their career I mean come on pull out all the stops and just go for it!

40 year anniversary and we still fill the set with covers. Damn the old fans wanting to hear the songs they started out listening too!!

You can't handle the truth :)
(or maybe Scott and Charlie can't)

Actually I notice Charlie does not play with the same vigor as he used to. He's still a decent drummer and he can still play those older songs (that he allows us to hear) but he's not as animated as he once was.
