The what's going on in Thrash thread

Actually something I've recently noticed that is more of a piss off than anything FB ever does is the shit YT throw up when you just click on the logo and let it show you pages of clips to choose from. I'm starting to get videos of fucking Blabber headlines. Shit like Ritchie saying the KK fight is a shit show and Dee Dickhead saying it wasn't Jack's fault there was a fire. I don't click on them but I assume it's the video link in the blabber article added by someone, maybe even them, but because YT checks cache and cookies etc it sees Blabber and thinks those videos are something I want to see. As if not clicking on them on the Blabber site wasn't enough of a hint.

I'm not getting that stuff. I'm getting video stills from the persons channel of the video I'm watching. Not at the end. But during what I'm watching. Two or three of them. And I can't seem to get rid of them.

I don't usually get anything in-video, maybe the ad blocker works on those. I generally don't search for stuff I just click on the logo when I'm bored, so I get all sorts of shit from music to local covid news to cars to science shit. But these metal articles posing as videos seem to have crept in because I just don't get enough shit on that page.

You need to harden up :p
It's got Chuck, it's got a dude dancing like Scott Ian, it's got 10 different bands. It's thrash, it's new and you should get on board with these new bands :p

Seems like we are all on Facepage or whatever its called. Do any of you follow Thrashmania on there? They focus on the newer bands and thrash releases.

No, but after a quick look I might. I generally only follow bands. I used to follow a few 'metal pages' but so many of them just became picture sharing pages and as good as some images can be when they keep recycling the same things over an over it gets boring.

I don't follow anyone on YT, I don't even sign in, but I do keep up with New Wave Of Old School Thrash on there and they are constantly putting new bands on there.

I watched a short doco on the US punk scene of the early 80's last night. Was interesting to see some what some of the guys from bands like Bad Brains, DOA, Black Flag and even the Dead Kennedys look like today. Jello Biafra is probably the most unpunk person ever these days. But what really stood out to me was the artists talking about the violence.

Nazi Punks Fuck Off was basically Jello pissed off with the new 'fans' that were coming into the scene around '81 who only wanted to throw punches and cause fights because that was the punk way. He doesn't deny violence and rebellion was the basis of the music but he was sick of seeing the fans beating the shit out of themselves. Penelope Spheeres, the chick that did Decline Of Western Civilisation, was questioned about how she really glorified the violence and how she encouraged the violence on film. She was questioned about why she made it more about the fans kicking shit out of each other rather than the decent fans who just wanted to slam, stage dive, scream, yell and release whatever tensions they had. The stupid bitch defended her shitty interviewing technique by suggesting the scene was about violence and reporting it as such with punk music playing over the top was a valid way to do things and that reporting that there was a decent (maybe) side to the fans wasn't fair.

After what's come to light over the last few years about what that same bitch did with Decline Part 2 the metal years, especially the Chris Holmes interview which pretty much every metalhead remembers, it's hardly surprising she fucked the punk scene over just as badly. But she's a real piece of work to still defend the shitty way she portrayed bands and still think she was supporting the scene.

Having a quick look at that some of it does cross over with the doco I watched. will read the rest later.
It's amazing what some of those bands put up with because it was supposedly the 'norm'. Rollins talks about learning to 'lead with the fist' because if you didn't someone else did. Metal followed suit a few years later. Look at the way Gary Holt talks about some of those early shows. We had pits where arseholes just wanted to fight, wanted to mess shit up and wanted to cause trouble. We'd have idiots leaping into pits feet first to kick people in the head. Like punk the scene cleaned itself up because it had to or it wouldn't have survived.

Metal, thrash, whatever may not have gotten quite as bad as punk but I've always thought the biggest problem music like punk and metal has is it's fans. There has always been more fights and violence between fans than genres.

An older guy I worked with who lived in the Bay Area back in the 80s told me the Nazi's used to come out to the shows and always start shit.

Agreed. I thought metal shows were rough until I attended a DRI show and their punk fans just don't give a shit - One of the wildest pits I have seen. All the divey places in Vegas that used hold metal shows always attracted a rough ass crowd and there were usually fights, especially when there was a crossover band or a band that attracted a hardcore audience.

A few times when big time bands come through they would have shows at Casinos and the fans were drunk, loud and obnoxious. I always thought, "You fucking assholes are the reason the casino venues don't like bringing in metal shows"!

Yep, I thought the same thing so many times. The low light of our scene was the riots out the front of Sepultura in 92. Fuckwits tipping over cars and throwing shit everywhere. Fight is clubs happened, fights in the street happened but a riot out the front of the venue made metal front page news for the wrong reasons and fed the paranoia of those who had it to hate it even further.

How much do you follow that page?
I'm just having a look through it at the moment. I can take or leave Annihilator's new album, it's got some reasonable stuff on it and a great VH cover, but I'm not sold on it. However the next three posts are interesting. Exist, polish thrash that doesn't sound too bad. Oxygen Destroyer, black death/thrash that shows some promise. And Seizure that a very 80's thrash like.

I'm think think page might have some worthwhile new shit when times are slow!
