The what's going on in Thrash thread

It was re released a few years ago for the anniversary. I thought about that before. Because they talk so much shit for so long that you'd think they should know exactly what they would do differently to make it this unreal album. But no. They haven't. They should though.

It wasn't even remastered was it? Didn't they just do the anniversary with extra studio tracks? The kind of shitty tracks no one should have to pay for because they are just out takes and jamming?

I think they are all double disc. Remaster and original. I might be wrong though.

Island did a deluxe 2CD in 2018

they also did a vinyl remaster on 2 discs

and a 30th anniversary 2CD which they are suggesting is not remastered and comes with a second cd of Charlie's Archive, which is just shitty versions :)

The album has been re-released about 25 times and several claim to be remastered but there is no exact definition of what remastered is.

Thanks for the summary. What is the story with Island records? I don't think I have heard of them signing any other well known metal bands.

Island bought into their catalogue early on, they signed to Megaforce but Island released secondary releases of all the albums from Spreading to POT. It would have been a deal between Megaforce and Island, Anthrax probably wouldn't have been involved. Island did however release POT on their own.
But when you look down the list of releases for any particular album there is about 10 different labels releasing re-issues under licence.

Yeah the Island ones are what I'm thinking of. I could have sworn they said that one disc was remastered. Is it possible they would do that with the other anniversary discs and not SOE? Or are none of them ? lol.

It might well be, but from what I've found it's hard to pin point what they are remastering. It would seem odd that they released an anniversary edition on vinyl which was remastered but the same anniversary edition on CD released the same day, or the deluxe version released 2 weeks before weren't also remastered. However there is two Universal Music releases from 2011 and 2013 that also claim to be remastered.

So Amazon has the 30th of State Of Euphoria listed as remastered. At least for the European version lol.
The comments in the US version mostly say it's remastered. I guess that doesn't mean it is.

Yeah it's kind of confusing considering Universal Music claim to have remastered it 7 years prior to the official remaster and Universal at best were only even an international distributor.

I really have no idea. I thought when they talked about they said it was. It's not just another re release, it's the 30th anniversary. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't. And also call bullshit on them lol.
Oh I found this...I remember things sometimes! :tickled::rolleyes:

Aaahh, see what I found didn't suggest Universal had anything to do with the 30th, yet they did do the previous remaster.
Chances are the Island/Universal connection is a partnership or parent ownership type of deal and that's nothing new, but Universal seem to have bragging rights on who remastered it first. I wonder if the 2011, or 2013 remaster is the same as the 2018 remaster.

I just got an email from the high school saying they had a gas leak (what you lot call propane that Hank Hill loves so much on King Of The Hill), this morning. All's ok and the fire department have given them the all clear to return. But as a compensation(?) the school is offering all the kids BBQ food during the day. I'm a twisted sucker because all I thought of was that they were trying to use the excess gas for something so they decided to cook a BBQ.

Yeah I always have those kinds of questions about remasters. How do you know with so many? I doubt anyone buys it every single time it's done. For instance ss far as I know The Gathering has only been done once years and years apart, and done by Sneap so you know it sounds better. But with so may for SOE. How can one tell.

Lol. That was my first thought!! Oh man. That's scary though! Glad everything is good! :kickass:

I'm not going to count them, but M-A lists more than 20 releases while Discogs list 48 release versions of The Gathering. Take into account that many of those are reprints, country specific, distributor releases etc, and while some might contain bonus tracks they are essentially the same album. It's harder to find exactly which ones are remastered because NB are listed as releasing 7 different remastered versions in 2018. That will probably cover and LP version, a CD version etc, but at least they are all in the same year so one can assume they are the same release. But Universal releasing Anthrax with a span of 8 years doesn't really tell us anything about what they are actually remastering.
