It's better than it was, CD's used to be $29.99 and the music industry claimed it was because of copyrights, legal fees and other such hidden costs. Then in the mid to late 90's a few cheaper retailers swamped the market selling them for $19.99. It took a few years but eventually they all dropped. However odd prices then started to creep up and many new releases became $24.99 for the first month or so. The music industry still says it's legals and record company's demanding high prices, but it's pretty clear it's the stores. It's why so many people turned to Amazon, but then Amazon fucked us over by opening here and stopping us (technically) ordering from the US site. LP's (both old and new releases) mostly retail here for between $40 and $60. The stores spend their time bitching that sales are down and piracy is supposedly stealing their sales yet when it's put to them that they could easily afford to drop the prices and still make profit they say it's not possible.

I'm sure anything Kerry does will be closely compared to Slayer no matter who plays on it, but I think finding other players is essential. Even if Phil is on vocals I think he needs a different guitarist and drummer. It doesn't have to change the style, but it could be the difference between an album of Kerry's stuff and a Slayer cover band. I'd really be interested to see if he could write something that would suit Chuck.

I think ours were $30 when they first came out. But then went down to $15 after a few years.

Like I said the other day they came along at a time when Metal really needed a kick in the arse. But maybe I understated (didn't know) just how much other bands thought the same thing.

Although there is other factors it does seem like Testament were another band that formed their own label which helped resurrect them. I know some bands do it purely to make more money but it really does seem like those who have done it and done it well survive less sales of today's market better than those that just rely on labels to do it all.

When Amazon first made it viable to ship here and our dollar was good we used to get albums for less than $20 and older albums for about $12-15. But the thing that made Amazon good was that shipping wasn't on a per item basis so paying $20 for one album and $15 for a few more meant that the price including shipping was cheaper than buying local. Many stores here claimed dropping to $20 "matched" Amazon/US prices and it did but unless the order contained 1 CD only Amazon still came out cheaper in the long run. I remember times where the wife and I would put in an order in excess of $200 for books, DVD and CDs and postage was still only a few bucks and it would come in a huge box.

Well Paul confirms he's working with Kerry. I wonder if Kerry will do the bass or whether he'll get a hired gun. Obviously if they go live he'll need a bass player but Kerry's never spoken about whether he planned to tour his new music.

Yeah I honestly can't remember if he's said anything about touring. I thought he said he was going to have a full fledged band but I have nothing to base this on lol. Can't wait to see who fills out the ranks!

Dukes would definitely remove the Slayer like vocals, while still remaining powerful and ballsy

Dukes is far enough removed from anything Slayer related to be a good choice. I think that's what he needs to do with the others. Greg would be a good choice for the same reason. I don't know which guitarist and drummers are not current playing to chose from but I'm sure if I thought about it I could come up with some. Kerry should do the same.

I don't have any feelings towards Paul. He's a competent drummer and if Kerry wants to make a Slayer 2.0 (which might be all he's capable of doing after all these years) then I'm sure Paul will be great. But he's got the opportunity to do something different, it would be a waste not too at least try. According to some Charlie Benate is the best, can do everything and the sun shines out his arse when he bends over, perhaps Charlie would like a shot with Kerry
Someone on the Metal Archives forum suggested Newstead could get on bass. I know he hasn't been full on metal the last few years but he's got the angry growl and mean look that would suit Kerry's band.

Speaking of Charlie he has this band called Anthrax....segue from one topic to the other complete!
With all this talk recently about Joey and John, their styles and the idea that Scott thinks POT flows into SOWN because of the song writing and melodies etc I heard something yesterday that I'd never heard before. I was listening to Kings, now if what Scott says about POT to SOWN being a natural type flow because the songs from earlier paved a path for the later then I think the same thing has been done between WCFYA and Kings. Either that or they watered down Joey's vocals because they were used to writing for John. Not taking anything away from Kings it's a heavy album but the melodies and tunefulness in Joey's voice especially in the song Monster at the End is almost a direct copy of John's melodic tones from SOWN. I don't reckon Joey ever sang those sort of tones pre-POT.
