The what's going on in Thrash thread

Argh fuck!!!
I was listening to Altitudes and Attitudes in the car the other day and my eldest decided she liked it so she's been stuffing around on YT listening to their other songs. That of course led her to Anthrax which I'm not overly worried about, however she then informs me she's listening to Madhouse, Got The Time and I'm The Man. I'm not overly worried about the swearing, she's heard it all before but geez why did it have to be that fucking song!!
Lol that is the biggest take from this isn't it? You must save her from that song!

Trying to encourage her with a bit of other Anthrax but she's not getting the hint yet. Maybe I need to get her to read The Stand, or Apt Pupil so she can connect them to songs...actually she'd probably relate well to Apt Pupil with all this home schooling BS.

Well, at least...eh who am I kidding? There's really no silver lining to that song :erk::)

It really was. That and Metallica doing One at the Grammy's is all I can think of and both of them blew my little mind...although One could have been better :p

Jethro Tull winning the metal award was on mainstream media here :)
I did like One when it first came out, I even kind of liked the film clip. I don't know whether it's overplaying or if maybe it goes too long, or even if it is just a crap song, but these days I just don't feel the same way about it

Nope, there is nothing that can be taken from that song and twisted positively, oh other than the final note! The fact that Scott and Charlie still talk about it like it was a world changing song doesn't help that.

That was such a pile of bull shit!

For me I think it's just overplaying. It's a cool song and concept, I don't seek it out though. But I'm not nearly as sick of One as I am Enter Sandman. I'll be ok if I never hear that again.

What are you talking about? Jethro Tull are metal :P

Enter Sandman had nearly all the makings of a 3 minute pop song, it was catchy, lyrics easy to understand and it was easy on the ears. It's no wonder they got more commercial success with that song. However it's a terrible song for one of the bands cited with creating a thrash metal scene.

I don't understand those two at all.

No I don't either. I wouldn't care if they celebrated the song like they have with the Married With Children appearance or with the occasional acknowledgement but the way they talk about it they make a lot more out of it than it deserves. I'm sure the swearing and the 'hip' lyrics are a draw card to some new fans but that appeal must surely die quickly. NFL is a better song if one only wants swearing and rudeness and at least that has some balls to it, I'm The Man has nothing.

Awe come on man it's been 20 something years let the Tull hate go :P
As a younger more rebellious version of myself I remember laughing at the Tull's nod in that award category but I also didn't want Metallica to win because metal should rebel against shit like awards shows. However that laughter didn't stop when the winner was announced!

I was watching that before. Like I've said before AS are a band you wont get many surprises from but what the do produce is usually fairly solid. There is no mistaking this song is an AS song, no mistaking John wrote or at very least co-wrote it and it's exactly what AS fans will want.
I haven't had the chance yet. They are one band I never really got into. I always got the impression that they were just a bit too straight up metal/hard rock. I forget what movie they are the band in, but it didn't seem thrashy. But I'm always ready to change my mind. Because I have nothing against them. They are for sure a great band.

Haha, I remember we were all screaming bloody murder when that happened. I loved that they got on. I thought, oh you mother fuckers are gonna see what a real band sounds like now! I was happy.

Yeah I like NFL.

I was listening to JB's version of it yesterday and I don't like it :)
NFL is not a bad song, although I think they have overused the backward spelling thing over the years. It's a little immature and silly but then it's about someone who pretty much has those traits so it does fit.
