List your front runners for album of the year thus far.

I've listened to more this year than previous years mainly due to some extra time I've had off since January. In my opinion as of now - halfway through 2011 - one album stands head and shoulders above the rest....

New World Shadows by Omnium Gatherum. This is easily their best effort to date and one of the better albums to come along in the death metal scene in the past few years. It's a melodic death metal masterpiece.

Obscura - Omnivium

I still need to hear a bunch of stuff but so far I'm going with that without question, that could change however.

Sacrilegious Impalement - Exalted Spectres, the best bm-release this year (so far).

Omnivium was also pretty damn good, although pretty overhyped.

The following albums have impressed so far:

Amorphis - The Beginning of Time
Omnium Gatherum - New World Shadows
MyGrain - MyGrain (will probably end up as surprise of the year)

There's still many potentially great albums to be released later on. September looks like an expensive month :p

Graveyard - Hisingen Blues
Necros Christos - Doom of the Occult
Hades Archer - For the Diabolical Ages
Autopsy - Macabre Eternal
Lantern - Subterranean Effulgence

my favorites thus far.

I was about to say that nothing had impressed me this year but then i remembered 40 Watt Sun. The Inside Room is definately one of the albums of the year.

Orchid - Capricorn
Graveyard - Hisingen Blues
Necros Christos - Doom of the Occult
Desolate Shrine - Tenebrous Towers
Ravencult - Morbid Blood
Wolvserpent - Blood Seed
Seidr - For Winter Fire
The Flight of Sleipnir - Essence of Nine

My personal list.

So far these are my favorites, I know I am forgetting some stuff. Any of the first three would be my album of the year candidate.

Primordial - Redemption At The Puritan's Hand
Septicflesh - The Great Mass
40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room
Aosoth - III
Decaying - Devastate
Portrait - Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae
Blut Aus Nord - 777 - Sect(s)
Sonne Adam - Transformation
Vomitory - Opus Mortis VIII

40 Watt Sun-The Inside Room
Primordial - Redemption At The Puritan's Hand
Necros Christos - Doom of the Occult

Obscura-Omnivium
Xerath-II
Paul Wardingham-Assimilate Regenerate
Septicflesh-The Great Mass
Beyond Creation-The Aura

There's a couple released so far that I have not listened to, or have only listened to once so it'll probably change. My assumptions are that the new Pensees Nocturnes album will run high on my list, and I'm anticipating many more albums this year. But so far the supreme ruler is easily Omnivium.

40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room is the clear winner for me. Very distant second might be Sabbat - Sabbatrinity.
