I've gotten so many requests about IRs that I thought about actually creating a LasseLammert IR Package....
the problem is: I never bothered fannying about with impulses, cause I don't like the idea of modelling etc.....so I have arse all clue how to do it.
and I'm stupid and lazy....

so what I'd need is a very detailed and idiot proof step-by-step guide including liks to the files (sine sweep?) and programs/plugins I need.

IF I should really create an LSD IR pack it'll be for sale cheap....but whoever writes the detailed and idiot proof guide will of course get it for free

I don't have IR doctor grade but I'll try to explain with my English knowledge :D
Hope you have windows (because convolution softwares I know is on win) -
http://www.voxengo.com/product/deconvolver/ (it should be on demo version but allow 2 convolution in row, after that just restart software)
- when open deconvolver at the bottom is button - test tone gen - and set your preferred resolution and lenght I think 15s would be enough (you can make it longer - it should increase accuracy). You can close deconvolver for a while.
-Insert that in DAW you will record - put same gear chain you use for re-amping - except you should put input into poweramp and not pre-amp input. (I don't know how that work with TS capturing in this chain)
-I think you should make it hit db around same place guitar DI hits.
-than record that but record a little bit longer (because reverb got tail and deconvolver wont do the job if it will be same lengt)
-I think you should normalize recorded sweep (because original sweep is normalized and in that way IR should be at max volume)
-export your recorded sweep.
-open deconvolver and uper part browse for your original test tone you used to re-amp and same for your re-amped sweep under it. You can put folder and name of processed IR in output folder section.
-than press PROCESS button and you have you IR.
Hope that helps. ;)

EDIT: I love Fruity loops for that because it got convolution plugin that not only load IR but make them too, with 2 instances of them (one before signal chain sending click and second at the end capturing signal and maximizing IR).

There is simple, but well enough, approach to impulse making - just sending pulse (one sample of maximum amplitude followed by silence) through poweramp and speaker, recorded response will be impulse, just cut length appropriately, it can be as good as sweep response processing, but much simple and no processing involved. It comes from impulse response definition itself, natural way.
From my experience better to try record impulses at 96k, other sample rates through resampling afterwards.
Voxengo Deconvolver has some options that can alter impulses in a bad way, compared to mic.

For Mac you can do it in 4 different ways:

with Logic: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb08/articles/logictech_0208.htm

with Fuzzmeasurepro 3 (150$): http://supermegaultragroovy.com/products/FuzzMeasure/
(guide: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/7597610-post9.html)

with mcdsp revolver (500$) (and a 14 day demo): http://www.mcdsp.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=39&Itemid=271
(guide: http://www.mcdsp.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=285&Itemid=225)

with Studio one 2 IR maker plugin (30 days demo): http://studioone.presonus.com/portfolio/ir-maker/

i think it would be much easier just using a PC for a couple of days :rofl:D

finally! :D

aaaaaaaaaand just to bother you with more technical shit,
please make sure to create 48000khz, 2048 sample axe-fx II compatible ones! :D

I think capturing impulse response wouldn't change on other software. So I am curious... Have I done job enough? Because I'm not sure about idiot prof part.
BTW if making IR with using TS in chain is needed? Gods impulses got TS, but what it gives to impulse?

I can't use deconvolver (not on Windows!)

So I created an IR using Apples IR utility....
I think it's far from ideal, I sent the sweep through the reamping box into the FX return of the amp and recorded the mic'd signal back...
deconvolved inside the utility....no I'll have to cut off the beginning and end (which is difficult enough since you can't zoom in it seems)...
from there I can create the Space Designer IR...
but I'm not sure if that can be used in SD only?

anyone wanna try it?:

you could team up with somebody from here who creates a sinewave for you, you record it through different setups
and the other guy creates the IRs with them, a Windows user with DeConvolver for example (me :D ).
that way, you don't have to bother at all about the technical stuff, just send the sinewave through your setups
and that's it.

Or just talk to Skaldir about it, he seems to know his shit and even has a clue about doing it with Nebula and so on
and I have no fucking clue when it comes to Nebula.

teaming up with someone might be the best idea since I'm getting frustrated already.

On the other hand would I like to have control over the quality and would have to be sure that the result will be the best possible

Just for fun:

I've just recorded the preamp out and the mic'd signal simultanously, then put Space Designer with the IR on the preamp-out track....

Ignore the sound, I didn't tweak anything, didn't even tune the guitar, was just a quick test cause I wanted to see if it works at all...

here's the result, one is the mic, the other one the IR...

doesn't sound good, but good enough for the fact that I cut the IR randomly and have no idea what I was doing, lol
