the vampir is primarily a slavic myth
it is said to have something to do with vlad tepes, according to legend (well more with dracula). it is found thoughout the balkans and into hungary and bavaria, etc. vampires are society's parasites. going against an established order had its consequences , thus the need for vampires to feed off of others. it probably kept the villagers from revolting against the authorities, and it got the little kiddies back home before nightfall.
