This sucks.

Were Strapping Young Lad not on SOTU? I'd much rather see them than Devildriver. Or anyone for that matter...

Or GWAR!

But they aren't RR bands right? So I assume there is a certain RR burden Opeth has to carry and it may as well be one they actually get on with, but yeah, a lot of bands would be better than them. I really hated what he had to say about the music industry on some video clip I saw, he should be a spokesperson for RR!

I still think Opeth should have toured with High on Fire instead of Devil Driver :erk:

That the internet and MP3s are evil and that they should be banned and that they are destroying the music scene, hehe, obviously he forgot to say that its only being destroyed for money grabbing idiots like him, when most underground bands thrive on the internet. From then on I hated him, and the music was always dubious, but now I won't even give him the benefit of the doubt. Though I will make sure I download all his albums, then delete them, then download them again and again just to spite him!

Thats what happens when 2 of the bands are backed by Roadrunner, but at least Opeth aren't supporting them, that would just be wrong!

But of all the bad bands Opeth have toured with lately they seem to be the one that Mikael and co get along with the most, so I suppose it makes sense. More sense than touring with other bands from the Sounds of the thingybob...

yeah exactly. DevilDriver and Opeth have toured together in the past (2004 afaik), and the bands are great friends with each other, despite the fact that the music is so different. Basically, they wanted to tour together, i think.

I remember when they opened for Opeth two years ago... a bunch of stupid mallcore kids showed up, and many of them left following DD's set... presumingly because of the whole "if i haven't heard of this band, they must suck" mentality. I wonder if more will stick around now that opeth is signed to RR :p

I don't get that, though. I'm sure opeth, and even Devil Driver themselves know Devil Driver aren't really wanted on a opeth gig.

And since they're friends, it's weird they encourage it, instead of sparing Devil Driver the "fingers" and such.

But as was said before I think RR want to get their bands out there together, so if they are friends on the same label who enjoy spending time touring together... the pieces seem to fit no?

And maybe they want to broaden our minds with different types of music, which obviously isn't going to happen with Devildriver, but you can't blame them for dreaming!

And perhaps fans of that band will hear Opeth and appreciate some good music too!

yay! I don't have to hear DD. I haven't heard Devin's music. What's it like?
sorry, I have a habbit of changing topics

nevermind - I found samples

Agree'd.

No, this is what really sucks -

I was going to go to the New York show to see the special event but not only do I have two class (nights on Thursdays), but it is a midterm week so to miss it would mean me failing.

Seriously, what the fuck.

You guys better hope that none of you get stuck with "Eyes of Fire" as the support band. MY GOD! :OMG: what horrid crap that was. Ewwww...it made me want to rip off my ears, and wait till Opeth, then have them surgically put back on by Mikael himself...and his nurses (Peter, Martin [well Axenrot and the time], BP,and Per)

And then i would enjoy the show.

I've gone to two opeth concerts, one was supported by Extol and one was supported by Burst.

Burst just plain sucked. Extol's Vocalist sucked bad, but the rest of the band was quite ok.

Peter's awesome and one of the nicest guy's I've ever met.

I couldnt stand teh first DD album, but their latest isnt that bad. I agree that DT should not be opening for them though.

Why does everyone seem to hate Dez??

Agreed. Fury of Our Maker's Hand isn't that bad (the first half is much better than the last though).
