This sucks.

actually, I bought the first Coal Chamber album, back in 1998 (?). and I liked it! they had a female bass player which was quite hot.

that is true. i constantly have to put up with that loco song by coal chamber on music choice, but some songs on DD new cd aren't all that bad.

Another vote for DD's latest not being that bad. Seems to be even further from their Nu-metal roots. And even on the last tour, their lead guitarist was pretty good.

every metal band that doesn't produce highly intellectual complex songs, but more straightforward good metalsongs, seems to get bashed on this forum ... sickening ...
sometimes it can be fun to enjoy some simple music too, and isn't it great that you can find this in metal too? that there is simple music that isn't meant to be number one in musiccharts in every country ...
oh well .. every one can think of it what they want I guess, but there is absolutely no reason to disrespect a band that's true to their roots and produces non-mainstream music for the fun of it ... you don't have to like it, but come on people show some respect for stuff you don't like as well ...

that there is simple music that isn't meant to be number one in musiccharts in every country ... What? Simple music is meant to be number one on musiccharts *Slipknot, korn, etc.*

but there is absolutely no reason to disrespect a band that's true to their roots and produces non-mainstream music for the fun of it - Very true, for example Bloodbath. They made non-mainstream music, for fun. But I don't see how DevilDriver are Non-mainstream :Smug:

you don't have to like it, but come on people show some respect for stuff you don't like as well ... - I can, and sometimes even do. For example : I don't like all the stuff Bathory brought out, but I still respect them, and even those albums. Still, just randomly showing respect to bands is complete bs to me, they have to earn that, and If they, imo, don't make good music, or even try, you won't get my respect.

There you have it.

I don't think bands have to earn respect. I mean just going out and doing it deserves respect, I hate Devildriver but I think its great they are out there making music.

And I would say a lot of unmainstream music is simple. Try experimental music like Mike Patton's solo stuff, thats pretty simple, but I don't see it getting to the number 1 spot any time soon...

And so what if its mainstream? If its good its good.
There are hundreds of really bad underground bands as well as the ones who have made their way "to the top".

It's probably just me, but I don't mind that, I'd rather be alone on a statement I fully respect, than follow the masses on a dumb statement.

I seriously and genuinly don't get your statement.

You hate devildriver, but you think it's great that they're out there making music?

I just can't comprehend.

Because they aren't sitting on a PC bashing other creative people on the Opeth forum. I can respect that. Because no matter how dreadful and souless the music is they are still doing something positive on this earth (making Devildriver fans happy for instance, or possibly getting some of their fans into Opeth when they tour together), which I can respect.

Haha, sure you can bash me, I was just trying to understand your statement.

If bad music like DevilDriver never was here, there wouldn't be pathetic people thinking DevilDriver makes good music, and perhaps, a small amount of those people would listen to other bands. Instead, they form a large group *even the largest group* of metalheads. Nu-metal and metalcore lovers. Who even represents the true metalhead. *Try asking someone that doesn't listen to metal, what metalbands he knows and what he thinks real metalheads are. You'll definitely get an answer that consist of Linkin Park, and Korn. And that Metalheads are depressed teenagers.*

But a lot of fans of that music get into better music through it. For example, kid likes coalchamber, buys devildriver album, goes to see them live, loves Opeth, burns coalchamber/devildriver stuff.

And if a kid who likes linkin park calls himself a metalhead good for him, he only looks as silly and narrow minded as the "real" metalheads anyway :D

That's true, yeah.

Sadly I also know some people that have been stuck in that "group" of bands.

Even when I gave them advice on what really good metal bands are. *I gave them songs off of Opeth's "Still Life", Quo Vadis' "Defiant Imagination", In Flames' "The Jester Race", etc.

there will always be a lot of people that are stuck in massdetermined behaviourpatterns, and those big group of people thinking nu-metal is metal and so on, are such people .. but some people will actually discover more by starting simple ... I don't think there are a lot of people who were 12 years old, heard Opeth and thought that it was amazing, first of all because most 12 year olds will never get the chance to be introduced to this kind of music, and second of all because they haven't gone through a growing process in music ... (of course there are exeptions, but still a lot of those "exeptions" say they like something because they think they are supposed to) ...

and oh well, majority of metal is relative simple brainless stuff purely for fun, some of it you enjoy, some of it you don't, some of it you can't stand. and i'll admit, i bash some bands too that i hate for no really good reason actually ... oh well :)
i just don't see why we have to have a discussion in wich we bash devildriver, when this is an opethforum ... yes they are touring with them and all those guys will have a great time on tour no doubt ;) so if you don't want to hear them, have a beer while waiting ...

I think they prefer to be called "true" or "tr00" metalheads these days. And they prefer to be reffered to as "kvlt".

It's far more scene you know.

Haha. I believe you forgot to mention "gr1m" and "necro" as well. I mean honestly, if your "Kvlt" but not "gr1m" than you aren't a "tr00" metalhead at all. :Spin:
