This Year's Ozzfest

Yeah, I'll take the latter. There's some fine beer drinking time to be had, plus we'll tailgate. I don't see myself going into that venue until 9pm.
I have to agree with you for the most part. Shadows Fall couldn't possibly suck more ass! KSE is great live, even with Howard. They have a ton of energy and really get the place crazy. I saw them with both Jesse and Howard and they were awesome both times. I used to dig Rob Zombie, but he just doesn't do it for me. BLS is cool. I like a good deal of their music. Haven't had a chance to give "Mafia" a good spin yet, but I will.

In Flames won't play a thing that came before "Clayman" in front of this crowd, nor will Soilwork do any material prior to "NBC". Mastadon might be worth checking out. Other than that, short of The Hot Topic stage collapsing while one of those Mallcore bands is performing, I won't be applauding.

Does anyone know if the line-up is set in stone? Is it possible they might still add a band that doesn't suck donkeys?

I graciously disagree my fearless general. KSE is one of the most insipid bands I have ever witnessed. I caught them on the last In Flames tour. My God is their guitarist not the most annoying faggot on the face of this forsaken planet?!?!?! Their music and fanbase is no better.

The sad part is...they were 25 times better than "As I lay dying from horrible musicianship"

I seriously wish I could have my 20 bucks and 3 hours back. Fuck you Anders!

@Ayeka - you're getting Megadeth out there? Who else you getting?

Download festival, good bands confirmed so far are Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Motorhead...errrm, I'm sure there were more. Billy Idol, Slipknot and System Of A Down I'm interested in seeing. A LOT of gay emo bands playing so I've got to put up with a LOT of gay non-metal ranting from my mates  who'll probably bail on the good bands again (they skipped Slayer at last year's fest, I'm ashamed to even know them :yuk: )

This will be Megadeth's last UK appearence, that alone makes my attendance compulsory.

Oh, I remember who I forgot! JUDAS PRIEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

KSE is not bad live ... saw them open for Slayer a few months ago, but do agree that that tall guitarist is a hopping fool.

We'll see what develops ... but if you guys are planning to tailgate until the last 2 bands hit the stage, might be in for this one ... although my MINI might be in a ball of fire if I leave it out in Camden.

I've never understood what was so bad about KSE. I don't really like them, but it's not terrible or anything. They were certainly better than Soilwork when I saw them shitz open for whosits.

Killswitch Engage are fucking horrible! All that cliche doublebass jugga-jugga riffing and shout/whine/shout/whine....good god...

Yeah I know....I guess I was dreaming. I just figured that since Sabbath and Maiden were headlining, and Anthrax of real-thrash era were on board, we might get a few more old school bands in the mix.

Just once it would have been nice to see a festival where ALL the bands would be appreciated by ALL the fans.

@lurch - you should come along, it'll be a laugh.

Have to say, one of the best rosters in the last few years has got to be the Metal Gods tour: Halford, Testament, Immortal, Amon Amarth, and somebody else. Glad I saw it before it got canned. In any case, 100% credit goes to Halford for not allowing lolcore bands to join his stage.

(By the way, "lolcore" is the best term ever).

Anthrax tidbit teaser number 2:

Check out www.anthrax.com

You will see a countdown clock of approximately 16 days. This is when the announcement will be formally made I'm assuming regarding the Anthrax reunited line up. This may be why the organizers of Ozzfest need to wait to announce a certain 3rd slot headliner.

At least a strong possibility.

Headliners:

Black Sabbath - :D
Iron Maiden - :D
Shadows Fall - :) (Better pick than other unmentionable bands)
Black Label Society - :yuk:
Anthrax possibility - :D

Second Stage

Rob Zombie - :erk:
Killswitch Engage - :Puke:
As I Lay Dying - :yuk:
Mastodon - :) to
A Dozen Furies - ???
The Haunted -
In Flames - (setlist dependent)
Arch Enemy -
The Black Dahlia Murder -
Bury Your Dead - ???
It Dies Today - ???
Soilwork -
Trivium - ??? (who the fuck are these poseurs and why are they wearing Overkill and Darkthrone T-Shirts?)

Overall critique: Could be better, but it's still the best it's been in years. Too much Gaythenburg and Gaycore on the second stage.

Bloodstock?

Carnal Forge, was it?

Vio-Lence was at the Bay Area Thrash Festival, Matt, and did a few West Coast dates with Halford afterwards.

Killswitch Engage is THE WORST BAND IN THE WORLD right now.

Fuck Ozzfest - Maiden rules, but Sabbath is decrepit, and nobody else on that list appeals to me in the least. Bullshit whiny modern metal drowning in -core, the stuff I loathe above all else.

I'd be very happy if Anthrax was added to this bill. Very, very happy.

Clearly I'm in the minority here, but I friggin loved KSE's "Alive or Just Breathing". It's not a good CD, it's a great CD. While this CD clearly has some Hardcore influence, it's primarily a Metal CD with a ton of absolutely killer riffs. If you don't like KSE, than you don't like KSE, but they're a great live band. My first exposure to them was seeing them open for Soilwork. I had never even heard of them. Sixty seconds into "Life to Lifeless" I walked over to their merchandise table and said, "Give me whatever CD this song is on". Live, their sound is spot on, they have a ton of energy and they get their audience frenzied. You really can't ask much more of a band in a live setting.

Bash away.

That's right. It was actually 2 more bands: Carnal Forge and Primal Fear.

Bloodstock is remarkable - hats off to Vince for running that event. I mean, just look at this line up from '02:

Blind Guardian
Diamond Head
Gamma Ray
Return to the Sabbat
Bal Sagoth
Freedom Call
Elvenking

Love them or hate them, at least it's consistent.

OzzFest was going to sell out on Sabbath and Maiden alone, so I think they could have been a little more experimental than delve into MTV2 fodder.

And yes, I think the "mystery band" will be Anthrax (original line up), and for that, there is one song that will destroy: I AM THE LAW!!!

No way will I bash. I'm not a KSE fan, but you like what you like, it's a matter of taste and no one can bash you for what kind of music appeals to you personally. Another attitude I can't stand is the whole "if it has hardcore influence then I will automatically dismiss it attitude" or "if it has growls....." or "if it's Gothenburg death style influenced....." etc. Grow up and give a band a chance before jumping on the "they suck" bandwagon.

You know what band I secretly have a soft spot for (though I haven't heard their new album)?? Static-X

Now, if nothing else is..... well.... "bashable"..... that sure is, right?

Anyway, I think it's cool that you're not influenced by the "peer pressure" type opinions.

Yep. I think KSE is one of those bands that simply gets lumped in with all the other bands we love to hate, because of their look or because they're MTV2 darlings. I think if more Metal fans gave "Alive or Just Breathing" a fair chance, they'd like it.

Can't say I've heard them, but I'll keep an eye out for them.
