How do you get those "ghostly moans" that opeth do so well?
for example that little instumental part in Under the Weeping Moon after i laugh...blah...blah...blah...

volume swells, but i think he just uses feedback from his amp when playing it live. he didn't have an ebow until still life, so lets not have this debate again ok? (not directed towards you effigen, but to the peeps who were inevitably going to respond saying that)

Yeah I love Opeths creppy volume swells. Gives the songs loads of dark atmosphere,

To get those ghostly moans you need to climb to the top of the most grim and frostbitten mountain in Scandinavia and perform a satanic ritual to summon a spirit. After that, you must use your frostbitten penis to penetrate the spirit's arse. This will produce those ghostly moans. The process may result in the loss of penis, but that's what makes it so frostbitten.

you are a sick person.

Ok , there is a little but expensive thing called e-bow you hold it on your picking ( right ) hand. And when you just hit the string you put it near the string so it makes the sting give a different tone. And of course it longs the sound how much dou you want.

Its like 100$

Fernandes makes a sustainer pickup that supposedly works just like an eBow.

Another way you can achieve a similar effect is by holding an Epilady against the strings and adding reverb and a little delay.

No I remember my friend telling me he had some special pickup that could generate feedback...... maybe I was dreaming? I don't think so though.

fernandez made a "sustainer." i don't know if it was in the pickup, or if it was its own device. i know its activated by a switch. umm, kerry king has something like this too, if i'm not mistaken. i suppose something like this could bring out feedback. also, on the gt-6, there is a "feedbacker" setting. it sounds like a lot of this is used on deliverance. and, on the newer version of the ebow, there is a feedback/harmonic thingy. it sounds like this was used for the melody at the end of closure. so, there's some fucking feedback info for ya.

*edit* oh...didn't read ruby eyes' post.

Yeah it was originally only offered on Fernandes guitars housed over the pickups, but then they offered it separately as a kit to alter your own guitar.
