Download power tab and use power tabs. The program plays the tabs as MIDI and you can hear what it is meant to sound like easier, slow it down, etc. Very easy to learn from it! And there's lots of tabs and they are all extremely accurate unlike most internet tabs.

Yeah definately get powertab, the archives have a ratings system are packed full of metal songs too

First one I taught myself was "She" by Kiss, followed by "Parasite". Funny thing is, later on when I got a tab book of Kiss which had She and Parasite in it, I realised I had worked them out right, I was surprised! (Except was playing them a semi-tone down because I wasn't tuned in Eb like Kiss, and co-incidentally neither of those songs really have any open string/open chords parts).
