I've realized that i am. Not physically , even though I could stand to lose about 20 pounds, just my patience with the pit in small venues has become fairly thin. I discovered how much Friday night when I found myself considering doing my best to knock someone's block off. Granted , this guy insisted on taking up the whole floor , slamming into clearly uninterested spectators and knocking a lady on the ground but I think I was possibly being a dick as well. My wife, the voice of reason, prevented anybody from getting hurt (like me!) or arrested.

In retrospect I'm not sure i ever really dug moshing but I accepted it as part of Metal culture.

This is probably in the wrong section but it seemed like "Metal Discussion."

Yeah I don't do gigs anymore but if there are bands in my area that I have to see then I get drunk beforehand and find that I simply don't care about myself or other people... But in general I think that kind of behaviour would piss me off, especially if it was some young wanker.

I mosh if tipsy and provoked. I got a bruised rib one time because some idiot had some aggression to let out though. Since then I take it in moderation. Maybe a couple of times around the pit then I jump out.

I don't mosh. I'd rather grab my buddies and headbang with them and just do other stupid shit with them. Like during Midnight I grabbed my friend and basically held him up while he crowd surfed to a crowd of about 20 people...

I've always hated moshpits and circle pits but I'd hate myself even more if I ruined those kinds of experiences for young metalheads. I love people getting destroyed at a show while some wild fucking Metal plays, I just don't want to be there in person.

I'll keep my distance and watch the slaughter.

I'm pretty much the same way. At my age (42) once a mosh pit breaks out, I immediately go into defensive mode to try and make sure that no one in my immediate space gets hurt. To add to that, I, too, have felt the need or desire to knock a head off during a mosh due to someone being overly aggressive or "showing their ass". Remaining calm is honestly the best way to manage the situation if you see someone like that. Remember, I'm getting old. LOL

I learnt fairly quickly to stick to headbanging and/or the non-violent mosh pits you get mainly with genres like stoner/doom or some punk bands. Far more enjoyable jumping around to a band you can actually watch rather than just concentrating on your peripheral for the next human tumbleweed that's about to flatten you.

Though sardine crushes up the front at festivals and major gigs are 10x more retarded. As are people who stand right in front of you and then slowly inch backwards throughout the course of a gig.

Count me in as another that loiters near the bar and drinks during live shows The only exception was when I saw Sepultura perform at Rock in Rio last spring. Went into the pit for a few songs and I was sore for a few days afterwards.
