Top 10 Best Artists of All Time

I think I'm a bit biased on liking Sabbath more, simply because I've always liked them, whether it be when I first heard Iron Man, or from when I fell in love with Paranoid in the 7th grade, or up until now.

Black Sabbath's fanbase isn't as riddled with metal brownie point-hunters who started metal-listening with Darkthrone, as Judas Priest's ditto. No critique of Judas Priest themselves however, I like them, just an irrelevant plus to Black Sabbath who're cooler anyway :)

Mainstream rock critics (idiots, in other words) like saying Judas Priest are a poor man's Black Sabbath or something of the like. It's just seems inane to me. Wow they have metal riffs, so it's just a rip off? Well let's see how many trad doom bands there are and then lets see if Judas Priest have ever made an album that sounds anything like that at all. Hmm guess not then.

Just because they're as old as Sabbath doesn't make the comparison justified. Rocka Rolla has fuck all to do with Black Sabbath.

Metallica just brought metal to the mainstream, gave it it's short lived glory as it rose to the top of the charts, and found itself trampled as the wave of trendiness discovered its new fix and moved on. Nothing more.

Not to mention their lead singer is awful and sounds more like he belongs in a hard rocking country band, but that's another thread.

Judas Priest's worst albums are way worse than Black Sabbath's worst, and the idea of anything on Painkiller being better than Black Sabbath overall is extremely silly. The best albums of both bands are on a similar level though, and I probably like Stained Class more than any individual Sabbath album.

Sorry but slow power chords and blues solos are no accoplishment. Stained Class is easily one of the more boring albums(I still listen to it sometimes). No Sabbath album is on par with Painkiller or the middle era releases. I just don't think slow begrudging blues that are posthumously titled "doom" is anything to write home about. Plus their vocals were absolutely terrible.

Old doesn't mean good, period. (I don't mind taking the piss for my dislike for Sabbath.)
My #1 will be Vivaldi.

Yeah, they "moved on" to bring every single Metallica studio album from the s/t onward to the top of the Billboard charts.

I'm pretty sure there are more than a few thrash bands who have taken on the introspective approach of Metallica in their music. Death Angel comes to mind, though I can't recall if their more 'personal' albums were still thrash.

Besides that, even if they didn't change the face of metal altogether, they still expanded its subject matter in a meaningful way, and from what I can tell they were likely a big influence on grunge music.

It's a shame how such a horrible band can get such widespread recognition. Sometimes people automatically assume I listen to metallica just because I listen to metal, and they call me blasphemous when I tell them I strongly dislike them. Just proves my point that metallica brought metal to the ears of those who find their tunes off the top 40 chart and singles.

Most of those people probably haven't heard anything but the "singles" off of The Black Album, Load/Reload, and Garage Inc. Those people probably wouldn't want to listen to Kill'Em All-AJFA.

Wow. I don't think I've ever read so much fail in a single post. You haven't the first clue what Sabbath did for metal, do you?

Yes, power chords. Got anything else? No? Shredd? Double bass? Blast beats?

Wait I know......a monotoned singer? Seriously....there is no slippery slope Blues does not = metal. Sorry, fail.

"It's a shame how such a horrible band can get such widespread recognition".

lol tis true for Sabbath and Metallica, to a lesser extent Pantera.

My High School music class was full of Metallica only metalheads.. Introducing them to Suffocation and Mahavishnu Orchestra fixed that tho.
