Ugh....once you hear the new Immortal, you'll throw Arcturus out the window

That's a bold statement my friend. :D By the way, what did you (or anyone) think of Reflections of the I by Winds?

The End Records seem to have some real gems with Winds, Arcturus, and Agalloch now...

Winds' album was a sin of omission of that list above...sort of like Arcturus without the trance atmosphere, but with all the abstract symphonics and bizarre vocal arrangements.

Here's my list...top 7

1. In Flames-"ReRoute to Remain"
2. Soilwork-"Natural Born Chaos"
3. Dark Tranquility-"Damage Done"
4. Meshuggah-"Nothing"
5. Nile-"In Their Darkened Shrines"
6. Tiamat-"Judas Christ"
7. Sentenced-"Cold White Light

Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane (favorite album ever)
Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Vanden Plas - Beyond Daylight
Star One - Space Metal
Timo Tolkki - Hymn to Life
Rhapsody - Power of the Dragon Flame
Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera (I guess I have to put this on the list)
Albums that I got that I haven't heard yet and are 2002 releases are: Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, soon to be Symphony X and Luca Turilli

Don't forget Sculptured, the band of one of the members of Agalloch. They are truly progressive, incorporating heavy jazz influences, trumpets, trombones, and more into their music, with excellent melodies and lyrical material. If you haven't heard them, I recommend checking them out.

In no particular order for the first few

TIE for the first spot so far.

Inflames - Reroute to Remain (excellent)
SoilWork- Natural Born Chaos (excellent)

3)Dream Theater- Six degrees (very good, but Scenes still tops it)
4)Sinergy- Sucide by My side (fun cd to listen to)
6)Sentenced-The Cold White Light (strong cd, but a little rushed)
7)Arch Enemy- Wage of Sin (great sounding in the car)
8)Entwined-Gone (gothy, wimpy at times, but good cd)
9)Blind Guardian (still havent really absorbed it all)

Letdown by:
Avantasia II (part one is so incredible it makes Part II seem like
leftovers except "final Sacrafice" and thats from part I
Angel Dust-Human Bondage (Doesnt even match half of the
greatness of "enlighten the darkness which is a
10/10
Nocturna Rites-Shadowland (more generic half the intensity of
"Afterlife" which is an incredible album.

Hoping to purchase SHaman, Dark Tranquility's Damage done, Darkane's Expanding senses really soon. Not too much going on this year, but next will be incredible

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
