Top ten of 2006 (September)

shadowNINE

Guitar/Backing Vocals in Vacant Eyes
Okay. It is nearing the end for 2006, and I am curious to know what people have found as their favorites from this year so far. There are still plenty of albums to be released this year, and it may be interesting to see how much the lists can change from September to the year's end. So what have you so far? Here's mine (relatively in order).

Wormphlegm - Tomb of the Ancient King
Dolorian - Voidwards
Novembre - Materia
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Nightbringer/Serpentinam - split 10"
Madder Mortem - Desiderata
Mirrorthrone - Carriers of Dust
Nortt - Ligfærd

And also...

Dir en grey - Withering to death.
Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion
Tool - 10,000 Days
Indesinence - Neptunian
Catacombs - In the Depths of R'lyeh
Ihsahn - The Adversary

Of course, this list is not absolute for me...as there are so many great albums to choose from (and I may have forgotten to include at least one). But it is indeed a rough list of mine.

these records are good enough to mention:

MUSE - black holes and revelations
TOOL - 10,000 days
KATATONIA - The Great Cold Distance
CALLISTO - Noir

...but I must confess that I haven't heard the new stuff from
"the mars volta", witch I expect to be a thrill! :Smokin:

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Akercocke - Words that Go Unspoken, Deeds that Go Undone
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Bal-Sagoth - The Chtonic Chronicles
Ihsahn - The Adversary

I'll think of some in awhile...

This is what I liked this year:

Pure Reason Revolution - The Dark Third
Novembre - Materia
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Ihsahn - The Adversary
The Mars Volta - Amputechture
Green Carnation - The Acoustic Verses
Red Sparowes - Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway

and well...... let's add In The Woods... - Strange in Stereo, I know it's old but I just got it:D

Here are mine, in order (kinda):

Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Dolorian - Voidwards
Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion

I can think of a few others...but none that make my list. Perhaps I'll think of something else or another one will come out soon.

It's kind of a cliche to mention it but it's a really great album
it even has "great" in its name...
now that the obvious is behind us...

I loved Agalloch's "Ashes against the grain"
Ulver's "Blood inside"
Axamneta's "Ever Architechture"
Distorted's "Memorial"
Moonspell's "Memorial"(yeah I know)
The Mars Volta's "Amputechture" though it's too early to tell
Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion(if it wasn't for this forum I would have never discovered the band)

that's about it...I didn't like tool's 10000 days nor muse's black holes...

satyricon-diabolical,now
daylight dies-d.devotion
katatonia-tgcd
36 crazyfists-rest inside the flames
team sleep
deicide-whatever the name is

It's funny I haven't even heard of Axamenta and one day I got spam in my gmail talking something about Axamenta.com and a new album with a guest vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw...that kinda made a little lightbulb shine over my head since I love Pain of Salvation...I thought, this can't be bad if Daniel agreed to be there...so I checked them out...only later I found out Yves Huts(from Epica) also used to play there and I didn't know...

anyway loved it...Codex Barathri is quite good too

Only two albums so far this year has been really great.

The band we all love - The new album

Madder Mortem - Desiderata

The new My dying bride and "I" (Abbath) also sounds promising.

(pretty much in order)

Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Devin Townsend - Synchestra
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
The Mars Volta - Amputechture
The Gathering - Home
Tool - 10,000 Days
Thom Yorke - The Eraser
Moonspell - Memorial

Red Sparowes - Every Red Heart Shines Towards the Red Sun
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Summoning - Oath Bound
Mono - You Are There
Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway

I want to make these all number one. These four albums are just fucking amazing. Nothing coming out this year will top these for me.
1. Novembre - Materia
2. Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
3. The Gathering - Home
4. My Dying Bride - A Line Of Deathless Kings

Others that will be sorted out later that I enjoyed....
Agalloch
Lacuna Coil
Theatre Of Tragedy
Moonspell
Sengir
Green Carnation
Devin Townsend
Daylight Dies
Ihsahn
Amorphis
Delain
Angtoria

like usual I still need to figure out what all came out this year.

No Particular order...yet

1. Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
2. Cursive - Happy Hollow
3. Enslaved - Ruun
4. Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
5. Grave - As Rapture Comes
6. Mastodon - Blood Mountain
7. Emeth - Reticulated
8. Amorphis - Eclipse
9. Cradle Of Filth - Thornography
10. Suffocation - Suffocation

My Dying Bride, Hammerfall, Lacuna Coil, Deicide, Poisonblack, Amon Amarth, Rhapsody, Pagan Reign, Spawn Of Possession, Vader...either are honorable mentions or need more listens...A more complete top ten will happen soon.

Yeah Tool isn't in there...(don't kill me too much).

Oh, man I forgot Enslaved. Thoroughly enjoy Ruun.

I think I should throw in some honorable mentions too, that don't quite make it into the best of 2006, but are close: Moonspell, The Ocean (06 for the states anyway), DTB, Mastodon

And frankly, there have been some dissapointments. I found 10,000 Days and Somewhere Along the Highway basically underwhelming.

My list doesn't contain ten yet, but perhaps by the end of the year....there are four or five I'm anticipating yet. :D
