I've always been interested in this style, though I've made almost no attempt to really explore it. I'm looking for bands similar to the likes of Satan, Angel Witch, Cloven Hoof, etc. I've heard quite a few "essentials", but my knowledge of the sub-genre is still pretty laughable, so keep that in mind while recommending stuff.

One of metal's greatest sub-genres. :kickass:

Brocas Helm
Dark Age
Fates Warning (The Spectre Within and Awaken the Guardian)
Griffin (debut)
Jag Panzer (start with Ample Destruction)
Omen
Savatage (Sirens, The Dungeons Are Calling, and The Hall of the Mountain King)
Slauter Xstroyes

Diamond Head - Lightning to the nations
Raven
Riot
Samson
Saxon
Warlord
Manilla Road

You should definitely listen to Slipknot's new album! It's reminiscent of old Iron Maiden and Manilla Road.

The Warrior - Let the battle commence (maybe not actually, has cool elements though)
Blitzkrieg - A time of changes
Tokyo Blade - Live at the Camden palace
Savatage - Power of the night
Armored Saint - March of the saint
Manilla Road - Open the gates
Raven - Rock Until You drop

rms that troll was seriously awful and you still fell for it, nice retardation retard

stuff that hasn't been mentioned, er...
crimson glory - s/t
witchfynde - give 'em hell
legend - from the fjords
cirith ungol - king of the dead
satan's host - metal from hell (i notice from your RYM you like jag panzer - this is a fucking awesome side project)
anvil - forged in fire
adramelch - irae melanox
helstar - nosferatu
rage - perfect man
attacker - battle at helms deep
death ss - story of death ss '77-'84
heavy load - full speed at high level

not all in the vein of the bands you mentioned, but as a fan of that stuff (esp. angel witch and satan) i highly recommend everything here.

i also second most of the other recs

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
Queensrÿche - The Warning
Helstar - Nosferatu
Running Wild - Death or Glory

Thanks, I've seen a number of those albums mentioned quite a bit, though I haven't gotten around to most of them. However the ones I have heard from the list are definitely great (Nosferatu in particular is absolutely cunt smashing).
