Rob - I can certainly see that being the case for someone not familiar with King Diamond as well. I was a fan of King from before his solo career with Mercyful Fate. While he still wore the make-up in the later era of the original MF run, I always saw him as the singer of MF, not more of the "character" that he is known to be now.
