Covers are fine under three situations:

1. They make it their own where it's not just a straight cover but they do something different with it.

2. They have at least a 90 minute set (but even in this case it has to be the right cover)

3. They're headlining but don't have much original material.

I think they can work well for younger bands playing fests.
Gives people something to remember them by.

I mentioned Angel Witch before at Ragnarokkr.
Another from that weekend that comes to mind is when Demon Bitch did Tyrant. They did a great job with it.

Yep, lots of bands have that one cover that kinda got them going (IE - Borrowed Time doing Necropolis, etc)
