Tube Screamer FAQ Version 1

I didn't mean to upset you man, I just don't have all the time in the world to spend on a message board... All I wanted to know was what the tube screamer would do for me. I don't want to know what molecules would circle which neutrons to cause the atoms to vibrate hard enough for the air in the wire of the tube screamer to wiggle. I have a Peavey 6505+, cab, and a guitar that I play through it with.. I just wanted to know if it would clean up the tone, get rid of the hiss or staticy sound... I still don't even know what the thing is, I'm guessing it is some kind of distortion pedal, but from the few paragraphs of your thing I did read, it could be some kind of electrical outlet to induce thermonuclear fusion?

Wait - you do realize the last mention of this was a little over a month ago?

No, I am - what I'm saying is that TI gives out the 2134s, and those will be very different from the TL072s in there.

Chip design is MUCH more important than the manufacturer. TI makes chips well, so you don't have to worry about quality - when the designs change significantly, you'll get big improvements.

After doing the Burr-Brown OPA2134PA Swap on my TS9DX and I have to say that it made a difference on the sound. It's definitely an improvement.

Yeah, I think you almost understand it. Except that this is a special kind of thermonuclear fusion, one that only affects guitarists. It's called thermoguitarnuclearripyourfaceoff fusion (its real, just look it up in Wikipedia) . You see, once you plug it in, all these tiny little protons start to incubate the anti-suck genes that make up your guitar playing skills, and then you instantly become this insane top notch guitar player. Because the reaction is that the anti-suck genes start to overtake the suck genes after the incubation period takes place because they grow stronger, Seriously! You see, its kinda like taking anti-biotics, but for guitar skills. Just look what it did Stevie Ray Vaughn and that was the older model. The really cool thing is that once you use it long enough it starts to penetrate your bone marrow so then your bone marrow starts to re-write your DNA; so if your battery dies, your blood cells are already reproducing this ultra cool high-tech guitar madness monster out of you. You really should try it out. But, make sure you do the Op-Amp mod or you might just be stuck with super-hero guitar powers, instead of being the ultimate dungeon master. Hope this helps! :heh:

Why don't you just go to a guitar store plug it in play with the knobs and see what it does, then decide if you like it or not.

Okay, I just now tried to read this, and... Holy Raptor Tittyfucking Jesus, that made so little sense the posts around it lost a little bit of their readability to the vortex of OMGWTFBBQ emanating from this... whatever the fuck you are/were on, keep it the hell away from me or I'll NEVER stop typing...

I would not recommend it.

It is an overpriced TS clone (as most TS clones are), and BBE showed with that line of pedals that it has no interest in creative integrity or real innovation when copying old designs would pay the checks. Not only is there no benefit that the BBE pedal seems to give over the other pedals, it has the disadvantages of being more expensive and supporting a company that really isn't all that great.

Get a TS7.

The TS-7 is, once more, the TS-9 circuit. Period. That's all there is to it. I can't recommend them enough.

The only options I'd worry about at all would be the TS-7 and the Boss SD-1. Pick your favorite, don't spend more than $50.

Jeff

Think ill stick with the TS-7, its grey and it has locks on it! Ive lived with the DOD308 long enough, time to try something a bit different + for the price I can't argue.

If I had the energy, I would go through this very thread and quote how many times you've had to say that. God, can't people fucking read?

And James, this isn't directed at you. Well, not the harshness part of it, anyway :D

Awesome faq man!

I really enjoyed learning how the Tubescreamer works, including your radio host filler, that's the best part!

I also second a comparison between the real thing works in comparison with the TSS (tubescreamers secret) VST plugin, though that's not easy to do understandably!
