they are playing Chicago on May 4th. Earthern Grave is opening. They are the Into Eternity / Swashbuckle / Power Glove for local shows here...they are playing wayyyyyyyy to many shows. The show is at the Bottom Lounge...which is the best club in Chicago. Should be cool.

Dammit, now there are four openers on the bill in Chicago. Also Urn, Act of Destruction, and Atomize. I had been hoping to catch Tyr (show starts at 7pm), and then scurry over to House of Blues to see Ozomatli (show starts at 9pm), but now it looks like I might have to decide between the two. I've seen Tyr twice before, so I know they're great and wouldn't mind seeing them again, but I've never seen Ozomatli, and maybe that would be any better. Argh. Any recommendations?

Really? Aren't you part of the "wah wah, Novembers Doom are idiots for not playing more local shows" contingent? Earthen Grave is a new, local band without a full album. Isn't playing out, building a fanbase, working the scene, etc., exactly what they *should* be doing? What else would you have them do, just sit on their thumbs and wait for the major label record contract and national headlining tour to fall from the sky? Anyhow, unlike those other perennial openers, Earthen Grave is actually pretty awesome.

And how many times have you actually seen them?

Nice enough place, but I can't think of any dimension (besides parking) by which it beats Lincoln Hall.

Well, I do know where Bob is coming from with Earthen Grave.
I like EG a lot, but I have missed a LOT of their shows, for the simple reason being is that they always have many lined up.

It's great that they play out, but speaking personally, when I see a show of theirs, I don't go to extreme great efforts to make it out if the timing isnt convenient, since I know another gig is around the corner.

I won't speak for Bob, but I am guessing this is his point.

I'd like to see Tyr, since I'm missing ProgPower this year, but it won't be the only opportunity, I'm sure.

Maybe next tour. May 1st won't work. :(

Bottom Lounge is a very nice place, glad to see more shows going on there. The only thing that is starting to suck about Reggie's is the construction on 290 which is gonna last most of the rest of the year.

yeah...is it just for 1 year though....I thought it was going to be longer. And didnt they just finish this same construction a few years back?????

Jason hit it on the head.....I never said Nov Doom should play every week...like Earthen Grave. Like Jason said....playing lots can be good but you never need to rush out and see them. You always know they will be playing again real soon. I would rather see them play though than 95% of the other local acts in Chicago though. I've seen Earthen Grave play before...they are decent but not something I would ever buy on disc. Playing every show isnt going to ever help bands....playing shows that people are going to be at....yes. You have to be smart and selective..but not selcetive enough where you only play 3 times a year.

I heard Lincoln Hall is great....I doubt we will ever get metal shows there....it pretty much is going to be a hipster hangout aka Lounge Axe.

Well, High on Fire did play there on April 2nd. Wanted to go but unfortunately it was my b-day, so who knows? Maybe more metal acts will start getting booked there.

I too heard great things about Lincoln Hall.
Wanted to go to HOF, but I was out of town.

Reggie's is perfect, since it can hold a lot of shows that would have been pretty empty at Pearl Room. It's the perfect size venue for shows that draw 100 to 200.
