Uh Oh CoB, tsk tsk!

while listening to "Hatebreeder" the other day, I realized something very familiar about the mini-solo at 2:49. After listening to it a few times and trying to remember where I had heard that riff before it dawned on me.... That guitar riff is ripped straight off from Mozart! That solo is note-for-note identical to one of the Soprano lines in Mozart's "Queen of the Night Aria" from the Magic Flute! Tsk Tsk, I am VERY disapointed CoB. <Psst at least change it a little bit so that you aren't sued> haha bye.

Musical material can be freely used after 50 years have passed either from the death of the author or from the release date of the work.

So I don't think anyone can sue them for that.

Yeah, :( but what about such great musicians as Yngwie Malmsteen or Vai, who also have used a couple of classical riffs, that were obviously simply taken or ripped of the original songs?
That is nothing...........

Read what Alexi have said in an interview:

The opening riff for 'Red Light in My Eyes, part 2' is from Mozart's Symphony no. 25 and later there's a riff from 'Requiem'.

You got it. I think it´s a good idea. :headbang:

Actually that's not entirely true. I'm a copyright law minor and musical material that is over 50 years old may only be used with written consent and permisson from whomever owns the rights to the song as with any other aged song; however, if it over 50 years old, royalties are not always bound to it. Now this rule applies in america so of course it might be seperate in europe and finland and because mozart and whomever owns the rights to the magic flute was austrian, so it might be ok. But I bet even in europe that it must be quoted on the cd jacket that he has borrowed portions from mozart. Yngwie and Vai do note on their albums that they have borrowed portions. Still though, if they are that "classically trained" as it does sound they are, they should be able to write their own riffs like that. Honestly though, that riff I'm talking about does sound pretty sweet with the drums and shit. LAter

Red light pt.II is from mozart 25th symphony and there's part from one mozart mess, requiem kv 626 and part is called confutatis. i like more those mozart verions :) like that opera, Queen of the Night or Der Holle Rache (from hatebreeder). Many metal bands haves riff's from classical music and i don't think there's anything wrong :)

Nihilist, who cares whether the band used a classical melody in a heavy metal song ? As long as it sounds good, so what ?
I think they did a fine job in using those classical melodies to create really heavy songs, and that's all that matters. Love it or leave it.
And btw, who gives a fuck on law issues here ?

Don't get me wrong, I like what they've done with the material, I really do, I think the classical/metal mix is the best type of music out there. But at the same time, I know I'd be pissed if someone was to kype my material and not mention it officially. As far as arguing about legal matters, Eddy stated the 50 year rule which I was merely pointing out was not entirely correct. I'm not trying to be a hardass, I like the music all the same. Oh and I also love the confutatis music from mozarts reqieum, lthe lacrymosa is pretty kick-ass too. Later

If I composed a piece and a 20 year old guy was quoting it in his band 208 years later, I'd be flattered.

Thanks for clearing that up a bit. :)

hey guy... i think u mean that Wrath Within is a tribute to one of Alexi's favouritre bands, STONE, wich do NO COMMANDS (not scorpion's dont stop at the top). By the way, alexi and the guys DONT COPY ANITHING. only made TRIBUTES to great things for them. if someday i create a band, i will made a tribute to CHILDREN OF BODOM, perhaps with the riffs of Touch Like angel of death or Downfall....
