Ulver - Shadows of the Sun

Same can be said about the mustached cockmongler in Opeth.

If we put them both in a cage and made them fight to the death, GUESS WHO WOULD WIN!

But yeah, it's just a matter of opinion.

You either like him, or you don't. If you can get into his voice then you're guaranteed to love all his work. Those who do, really, really do like him. I personally prefer the live SM songs Simen sings to the album versions. It's all about opinions though, afterall.

And I wouldn't be talking about false vocals relying on programs to sound better, at least he has the guts to show himself live on stage, Garm has pretty much never done so, only a few occasions (they even needed to hire someone else to sing his stuff live with Arcturus, which btw the guy nailed), and the one Ulver bootleg I did see of him singing live was some horrid, shitty black metal voice that failed harder than a DVD Rewinder machine. Garm is a good studio musician, but he is the epitome of fake. Prove me wrong :D

Thou hath been disproven, :p.

That's not Garm, that is the guy I was talking about, Oyvind Haegeland, who did the vocals live from 2003-2005. He is incredible too, I wish he made a band.

This is Garm:

Not to mention that ALL of Vortex's vocals in recent Dimmu Borgir stuff is retardedly modified with effects.

I know, and I don't really care for it. That's why I really enjoy his LIVE voice compared to the studio work in songs like Insight and the Catharsis, Kings of the Carnival Creation and most of the Shipwrecked in Oslo DVD.

Retardly modified works quite well with Borgir's music since they are a wall of sound more or less. I've seen him sing live and it sounds awesome anyway

Yes, exactly.

The two times I saw weren't bad, but there was definitely missing something. I like his vocal work but I just prefer Garm's style.

Me too! I really love the "Live at Inferno" bootleg of the song though, he sings it so much better without any electronic shit, it's epic!

GLLLLAAAAAANCE INTO THE BLAAAAAAACKNESSS HIDDDEEN BENEATH YOUUUR SUUUUUURRRRFFFAACCCCEEEEEEE!

I like most of Purtanical except the Rammstein cover and there are more good songs on the other discs. It's not really black metal I know, maybe 'cause they actually use the guitars for more than dissonance. Too bad the two last records suck pretty hard.
