Ahh, with all the different names the hotels down there call themselves I get confused. Suffice to say I never make the reservations. (and consider myself lucky on that)

I have one suggestion - you can take it or ignore it, since you've already done this much work already and I don't want to give you more, but you have the contacts already.
You might want to call the Residence at 17th and tell them that many reservations will be pulling out, since you have a price of $135 / nt for your group at Techwood. They might laugh, or it might be enough leverage to get a (reasonable) group rate from them as well. I won't pay $230+ / nt to stay at the Res., but I might pay $10 or $20 more per night to be closer to the arena.
Just a thought - ignore or follow through. Either way, thanks for organizing this!

I have been thinking about this and may say to hell with the RI, cause if many of my fellow metalheads are there, Techwood looks good.

I'm somewhat checking in on this. I have a feeling that there isn't going to be much movement from the RI at this point... depending on how many actually cancel... but they are aware of the situation and I have the person who is working on the contracts "holding" rooms as people are pulling out so I can try and get a discount there too.. But to be honest, I've been told not to hold my breath on that one.
But you all know me, stubborn as hell so I'm not going to give up that easily on it!

Brian, I think that's a different hotel. (DAMN Marriott and their cornucopia of hotel choices in the area!
) If I'm correct, the hotel MetalRose has arranged a discount at is the Courtyard by Marriott on Techwood, which is behind what used to be the old Wolf Camera flagship store and next to the ruins of the old motel (no great loss) and the old location of Chinese Buddha (awwww). Further up the hill past the hotel is CNN/Turner/Cartoon Network etc.
I think the hotel you're talking about is on the east side of I-75/85; the hotel the discount is at is on the west side.

And THANK YOU! I really don't want to stay anywhere else other than the main RI (1365) but I'm starting to consider how much a few minutes of walking is really worth in $$ ..cuz right now I'm not sure it's worth an extra $130/night

I got confirmation that they are indeed holding the rooms at that price, but most likely won't hear final anything until next week. I'll keep everyone updated and as soon as I hear what's up, I'll let everyone know I promise.

FWIW, I didn't have to cancel & rebook, just typed in my phone number from the reservation, told them I had a reservation that I was adding to a group discount block, he took the name, confirmed my room details, and voila! I even have the same confirmation number. Smooth as butter.

It worked out well for me since I already had a reservation with 2 queens they helped me out and gave my original rate for wed of 189 and then thur-sat is at @ 139 still with 2 queens!!

Worked out great for me as well.....already had a room reserved for Thurs-Sun at $149 and they dropped to $135 a night.

Call them again, the rate for ALL nights should be $135. Then again, you're calling for two queens, not sure if that is what they mean by "double". But call again to check. UNLESS all WED night rooms are taken.
Actually, I'll call now and get a status update and see what the rooms are looking like.

AS OF TODAY OCTOBER 26th at 8:50 pm
WED. 24th- 9 King, 0 Queen rooms = 9 rooms remaining
THURS 25th- 9 King, 6 Queen rooms = 15 rooms remaining
FRIDAY 26th- 9 King, 6 Queen rooms = 15 rooms remaining
SAT 27th- 9 King, 6 Queen rooms = 15 rooms remaining
I have no idea what the difference is between the king and the queen to be honest. So Biffle- you should be able to get the $135 for Wed night.
Thank you to all who took rooms! Just about 24 hours later and the rooms are about 68% booked! They are filling fast- but I'd really like to get to 80% booked if possible!

If you get the king though I believe it also includes a sofa bed not a real bed. Even though I bleed metal my spine is made of feathers. I have to sleep on real mattress otherwise it will be a shitty weekend.
