Volbeat Discussion

I hope this trend would continue, with bands such as Volbeat, The Carburetors, and the like getting a shot as the "oddball band". Bands like these are infinitely more interesting to me than the latest prog metal/power metal by numbers band du jour.

Just realized that this could be taken the wrong way. I was NOT taking a shot at next year's line up, just commenting on bands/music in general that I've come across recently....or maybe it is just the way my tastes are running lately.

This band is the other band I'm so looking forward to for next year. Normally I'll wait to purchase the CDs at the show, but this band's CDs will be bought ahead of time. Hope I can find some good deals on some imports.

Volbeat is pretty cool .. I like that they'll be at PP next year. I actually saw them at Wacken this year, but I was not feeling well, and only managed to make it thru a couple tunes. I was pretty familiar with there music as well, and was looking forward to it, but too many Jaegerbombs the night before cost me dearly.

I like every song I've heard by them so far. Should be a fun show!

When they showed up on the PPIX movie, I immediately looked around for John, because he'd been mentioning them for months and I was always saying "Who?"

He also picked them to appear... Freaky shit.

Your so right, I had no and i mean no inside information as to the line-up, all I had was a hunch and a gut feeling, plus i love VOLBEATS music, and thought they would make the perfect "oddball" addition, as to the rest that i got right, i know what I like, and all my choices were based on that, and then looking at PP Europe and UK, and Scandinavia, and the choices just seemed right.

I like this band quite a bit. Fun music that has enough of its own style so that they seem different, even if at times they seem very straightforward musically.

My only concern is that they are after Astral Doors and before JOP, I hope I don't forget them ;p

I'm curious at what their response was like at Wacken.

I was slightly surprised they got a higher slot than Astral Doors, because I'd think that on fan-base alone, pre-announcement, among the ProgPower community Astral Doors would have had a bit more. But I guess they've earned this, if nothing else, based on album sales in their home country. I'm sure that when their label finally gets things rolling in the U.S. that they'll also find some success here. And... Astral Doors and Volbeat get the same set length, so its possibly more of a 'for reasons of variety during the night' than a 'because they are of a higher level'.

And it doesn't hurt that you hung out at my crew party this summer and heard what I was listening to at the time. :Smug:

I'm already predicting this band as the showcase returner if there is one for PPX.
And I love when people discuss the merits of where a band is placed because so far, Astral Doors is the band I least like on the bill.
