While I do "like" the name "Blowpeth"....it's smart, in a stupid childish retarded way...I think it's sad, actually, extremely sad, to see someone posting under that name, writing looong posts on how we (basically) suck.

Is it a delusion, or aren't you wasting your time? I'm baffled, just amazed....

To the rest of you...
Hey! Wazz up?

Mike

hey how are you?

I believe Mike's vocals were overdone in Watershed,I miss the old and vague whispers and short instances of poetic melody shown in 'Morning Rise' and 'Orchid','Still life' was great too because it didn't sound over-produced like it does now. I'm just trying to be honest :( The song ''Burden'' especially, jesus >: ( . This is nothing about them being less 'violent' [WTF?] or 'harder sounding',It's more like Opeth has seriously lost alot of depth.
I still remain an Opeth fan,and will support them to the very end. They are what music so desperately needs right now, just don't ever forget their older stuff, when they truly shined! Black Rose IMMORTAL!
[p.s.-and go to hell Roadrunner records]
pm me if you wish to rant, please. not here.

Correction:*I still remain an opeth fan*
God dammit
{P.S.-yeah I ride that black S10 extreme with an huge Opeth vinyl logo in the back window..honk next time!}

Hello,Mike
West Virginia loves you,.. Every cd store I visit here has some hillbilly dude in the counter wearing an opeth shirt. :D

When I heard WS for the first time I thought 'wtf?' but now, after few months of listening I really like it. Ok, it isn't the best Opeth's album but I think it's quite good [because it's Opeth ofc :p it can't be bad :p]. My friend sad that this album is incredibly commercial because he sow 'Porcelain heart' in MTV oO but I think that it's just a good song and it's played in MTV so I'm happy of it :D

Tell your friend that frugihoyi from the Opeth board said he is a tool.

I can't thank you enough for WS :kickass: (I really love this emote :kickass: )

Honestly, i can think of VERY FEW bands that still keep it going on their 8th release. The fact that WS on it's own is a good release tells a lot...there's no need to compare with their own previous works. If you liked it, well and good. It took me a couple of weeks or so, b4 it grew on me. And the best thing is that, we can expect even more in the future! Definitely more progression and change of sound just like in WS is welcomed from my end :D
I know all good things will come to an end eventually, but hey, lets just enjoy it while we can.

I didn't like watershed musically as much because I didn't find that the harmonies blew me away first listen like they always did before but I do like the 70s prog influences a lot and i love that theres more clean vox/progressive stuff, I always liked this side of opeth more, with the exception of a few of the more brutal songs.

edit: btw this album is better if you dont pay attention to beginnings/endings of songs just spin the whole album

Watershed is good...really good. Its just a different direction. Bands evolve and change over time, well good bands do at least. I wouldn't like it if Opeth played the same damn song or style over and over again across 9 albums. Save that stuff for Metallica and lesser bands. Watershed sounds very mature...if that makes any sense and it pretty much fits the natural order of progression for the band.

Also, I really can't fathom how some people can call Ghost Reveries bad....that album is fucking epic.

After reading more of this thread I have some more things to say.

1) To people saying the album sounds too "upbeat" or not dark enough or whatever, dissonance and harmonic minor passages and more growling and so on don't automatically make an album "dark". The darkest moods and atmospheres can be conveyed in a seemingly positive or at least neutral way... I mean just think about actual human feelings instead of metal cliches. Also another example, though I'm sure most of you must hate this band with a passion, silverchair's album diorama is by far their darkest most mature, heartfelt work but on the surface its (literally if you know about the band) making an effort to seem positive.

2) I'm loling over the "wrong note" in hessian peel, I can't believe out of all the details to get caught up over they picked that... and lol at the idea of it being wrong. Do people just not have any musical education?

3) After some more thought, here's my REAL problem with opeths last three offerings (looking at Deliverance not Damnation). Its the production thats the problem. I understand that the band wanted higher quality "better" production but honestly it doesn't suit Opeth's heavier stuff. I think the acoustics and soulful overdriven leads come through just fine, but for the more brutal parts on these albums they're destroyed by this overly tight and bright sounding guitars, and just generally giving off too precise a feel. I mean come on, this isn't tech death, opeth the heavier parts need a bit more meat and depth and (I hate to say this because generally I love really clean productions) rawness to them to allow them to shine through and create the right atmosphere.

Furthermore, I think the last three albums have been unfortunately mixed like every single other high production metal album and the mastering especially on watershed I think has killed some of the dynamics of the songs in favor of making the mix louder.

Yeah, Load sounds a lot like Kill 'em all, which sounds a lot like St. Anger, which sounds a lot like the black album, which sounds just like Master of Puppets.

You think Opeth has changed their style? Not compared to Metallica. Why do you think everyone hates them so much? For releasing Ride the Lightning over and over again? Uhhh no.

Holy shit - I just found logic on the fucking internet. Last place I expected to find it as well. Cheers Mr. Hungus:kickass:

I am not disapointed with the new Opeth at all!!! It is not what I expected them to do which has kept me excited about it! I hope that they capture quite a few songs live for a DVD!:headbang:

I thik they shouldn't been hurry to release new CD after GR.
The same goes (maybe) to COB (after Are You Dead Yet?), COF (after Damnation and a Day) and some others.

Ha, thanks Frosties :kickass: to you as well.

Well, Watershed in typical Opeth fashion is growing and growING and GROWING on me. Why do I doubt this band? This happens every time I hear a new Opeth album. I am never blown away, and I never have a moment where it all clicks.

It's such a gradual process from "meh" to the day when the "eyes closed involuntary smile accompanied by goosebumps" reaction kicks in.

Yup, I now love this album. I still don't think it's quite as god-like as Morningrise through Deliverance (the pentavirate of greatness - wait, is pentavirate a word? I heard it on "So I Married an Axe Murderer"... if so, I doubt I spelled it right) but it sure is gaining ground at a steady pace and may some day catch those 5 perfect albums. Was anyone actually able follow this paragraph?:loco:

I think my only gripe if I were to nitpick would be the growls don't seem to be as loud this time around and they don't envelope the room and make me feel like Satan is in the room and inside my head... I like that feeling.:heh:

I really love Watershed. I grew up on Led Zeppelin and King Crimson, so the progressive aspect of the album doesn't bother me at all. The growls could be a tad louder, and there could be more of them, but Mikael's clean voice is so awesome on this album that it doesn't really matter too much.

Instrumentally, I am really happy with the addition of Frederik. His lead style is so different to Mikael's that there is no confusion about who is soloing (Unlike when Peter was in the band). And Per is just great. My only complaint is that Axe seems to overplay just a little sometimes. Where Martin Lopez played very tastefully and as though he had nothing to prove (which he didn't) Axe sort of pushes his awesomeness down our throats a little. He is excellent though, and perhaps on the next album he will realize that we all love him enough for him to relax a bit.

I like Watershed.
