Was anyone else very impressed by Watershed?

Thats widely regarded as Opeth's best/classic album omg... buy it..love it now!
My favourite album ever!
Anyway in relation to Watershed it's my second favourite reocrd to BWP... just brilliant.... and btw the pace of it is better than ghost Reveries - which slows down in the middle of the record (also amazing album though).
 
Right now, I'd say BWP>Still Life>MAYH>Watershed>Damnation>Morningrise>Ghost Reveries>Orchid>Deliverance

I love every album in a different way though, but that's my overall ranking.
 
What I really loved was Damnation, say what you will, but I thought it was amazing.
 
i dont know why people think GR is a bad album i absolutly love it..i love the darker side of it..and i love Watershed..but i feel its lacking that dark depressing quality on some songs. like coil. its soo....upbeat. i guess thats what you get when you get new members. changes....i loved that dark mysterious feel they had on Damnation through Ghost Reveries
 
Watershed is one hell of an album.It's a masterpiece like every single Opeth album.In my opinion,this is their most Progressive album to date(well there is Black Rose Immortal,but that's another story).Hessian Peel,The Lotus Eater,Coil,Heir Apparent are in my all-time Opeth favorites.Well done Opeth!!!! I hated Watershed the first couple of times I spun it. Then I loved it, then I hated it again. Now I like it alot, but I wish they'd've spread out Heir Apparent and The Lotus Eater...Maybe Heir Apparent/Burden/Lotus Eater. I don't like how the cd starts out as one of the heaviest things Opeth has done (Coil not with-standing), and then turns into by far their softest, with only a few scattered growls occupying the last four tracks.
 
I enjoyed the journey Watershed provided, but the album was too short. I hope the next Opeth album is longer, more change ups, longer songs, maybe break the record up into 100tracks. As always something unique, something thats never been done before, keep pushing the boundries, keep the exploration open, and the metal intact.

i know what you mean about the dark overtones, happy opeth just isnt good opeth in my opinion

i loved all the sad sounding tracks like for absent friends, the start of isolation years etc, i feel it is more moving than upbeat stuff like coil

tbh i wasnt 'very impressed' with watershed. it has some cool parts that i like for sure, but it gets ruined by uninspired parts and repetition. to be truly impressed all the songs need to be fantastic. also, alot of the songs seemed to have filler phrases that i didnt like, stuff like yeah ive heard it before

I disagree with you.In my opinion,Opeth progressed in the past 3 years.Their music also progressed with them.When I listen to Watershed,I feel that Opeth is going in a more mature kind of way.They think that not everyone that listen to their albums should understand them.To really understand and appreciate Watershed you have to make a connection with yourself and know the differences between 2008 Opeth and 2001 Opeth.I mean be open minded,or you won't get anywhere my friend :)
