Just curious, I've been off my metal kick for a while and seriously diggin the old school funk/fusion/jazz stuff. A lot of P-Funk, Kool and the Gang, Jaco and currently Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (who put on the best live show I've ever seen - ever. Nothing has come even close - including Metallica at the Bowery Ballroom). Unfortunately I couldn't find any good quality videos on youtube of the song "Stompin' Ground" which is currently on loop in my life, but here's Victor Wooten's version of Amazing Grace which I find....amazing. It actually almost made my head explode the first time I saw it:

So what are some of you guys listening to that isn't metal/rock these days? I feel the need to broaden my horizons.

Well... I really like the new Metric song "Help I'm Alive." I can't help but dance when I hear it. :p

Secret Chiefs 3, Bon Iver, DJ Shadow, Earth, Masada, Kayo Dot, maudlin of the Well, Toby Driver, Mr. Bungle, Slint, Sunn O))), Boris, UNKLE, Ground Zero, Naked City, Painkiller, Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Quintet...
For a little taste.

props for damien rice. O is a fucking classic!
if you ever get the chance to see him live dude, go for it. seen him twice, one was a really small crowd and that was very intimate, then i saw him at a bigger gig, about 5k people at that one, and that was just EPIC. they jam out i remember for about 15 minutes all the time, its incredible.

Almost nothing I listen to these days is 'metal.'

-Emery - ...On Shallow Seas We Sail. This album is pure fucking genius. Not only one of my favorite productions ever, but musically... fuck.
-Paramore - Riot! is still on constant rotation... great production, catchy songwriting.
-Brand New - Deja Entendu + The Devil And God... are my most listened to, but I still spin Your Favorite Weapon a lot. I really love this band and Jesse Lacey in general.
-Enter Shikari - Common Dreads. Still spinning this one a lot, as well! Great tunes on this one.
-Devin Townsend - Ki. Still constantly listening to this one. Epic as all hell.
-Four Year Strong - Rise or Die Trying. Catchy as all hell, seeing these guys on the 20th with Set Your Goals. Can't fucking wait!
-Jimmy Eat World - Clarity. Loved the Bleed American album, as well. Great rock band here.
-Kaki King - Dreaming of Revenge. Great writing and vibe here. Love this vagitarian!
-Peter Fox - Stadtaffe. German rap artist, for some reason really like his style.
-The Spill Canvas - One Fell Swoop. Like Paramore with a dude singer

Howard Hanson, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sergei Prokofiev, Bela Bartok, Mahler, Sibelius, Copland. Mainly been on a concert music kick because I'm trying to get some orchestration skills under my belt.
And my usual jazz suspects of Dave Holland, Christian McBride, Holdsworth, etc.
Lots of King Crimson circa early 80's and 90's to present.
and some Paulo Bellinati and Baden Powell.
But mainly modern concert stuff.

It's 50/50 between metal and non-metal, but lately there's been so much crap metal, I mostly listen to drum&bass, industrial, ambient, porn jazz/funk, rock.

Dangermouse and Sparklehorse
David Bowie
The Mars Volta
Miles Davis
Jerry Goldsmith
Bartok
King's X
Berlioz
Portishead
The Flaming Lips
Maudlin of the Well

Mostly Jeremy Soule's compositions for Total Annihilation and Oblivion. Some of Karl Sanders' solo album and the usual bit of Kammarheit. Then there's the reference rock like Breaking Benjamin, Nickelback etc.

Orchestral Movie Soundtracks...

Last few nights have been

The Rock (Navy Seals Theme)
Jurassic Park
Armageddon Main Theme

X however many repeats it takes to fall asleep then I wake up and it's still going. :heh:

A bit of everything, some 50 cent, Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, Micheal Jackson, the occassional Timbaland, Rihanna, some classic Bob Dylan stuff. Oh, and an old friend of mine who is off at some music school something recorded a bunch of live performances with some other guys there, pretty much just basic jazzy-swing stuff. He plays some fucking killer drums on it, so I've been cranking that quite alot lately.

Also Promoe's album 'The Long Distance Runner' gets quite a few rotations in the summertime. Ah, memories.
