What band do you think only gets BETTER

I agree!

Gah, no, everything starting with Marriage absolutely pwns the fuck out of the stuff up to that (especially Life Among the Ruins.) The old stuff was inconsistent as fuck and often outright awful (yet again, Life Among the Ruins).

Have you ever LISTENED to "guardians of the flame" , or "noble savage"?
V.S. were triumphing back there, even more than the marriage of heaven and hell trilogy. Their old albums are mostly hailed as their classics.

I have to say that Savatage hasn't been the same since Cris passed on. But their downward spiral started, like Hawk mentioned with the introduction of Paul O'Neil, who was given all this power within the band...
What was that?
Then Jon left & "poof" a career of mediocrity...

Hawk my friend, I think that, at least since Handfull of Rain they have. :)
Well, then we are in agreement :)
You are pretty cool :headbang:

I guess thats what I was saying. I had not formed that idea explicit but that is what it comes down to.

Good observation buddy!

When I read the report of their prog-Power gig I noticed that they played a fair amount of classics.

I remember hearing "City beneath the surface" [this was when they still were called Avatar] and I was completly blown away by it. i just loved that song. I just wished they would get their act together and play some solid metal again! He he :tickled:

Excuse me I am gonna play me some Savagate!!

The Dungeons are calling. Calling for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headbang:

Well, there were some great cuts on Edge of Thorns, but that was like Priest with Tim Owens... It just wasn't the same.
Hawk, do you like any of the TSO stuff?
I have heard some of it, but it didn't really catch my attention...
I read where they are trying to get Michael Schenker involved
with the new record & he is interested in doing two tracks...
Also are you gonna pick up the new MSG dvd?
I'm looking to order it online...
He put on one hell of a show, this tour.

I had the feeling that it was not the same powerful Savatage as before, but in no way had this to do on my mind at least, with Zachary Stevens.

I think he is one of the most powerful and best schooled voices on the planet. "Handful of Rain" is one of my favorite Savatage albums and one of the big reasons it is so is because of Stevens vocals. Although I sometimes have the impression that the songs not always fit his voice not his singing style. Listen to "Taunting Cobra's" the opening track of "Handful of Rain". The title song of that album otoh is a perfect fit! :headbang:

Same here. The music does not do anything for my. There's also an other reason. One of my favorite movies is "Gremlins".
When it comes to Christmas I side with the Gremlins!

He is? Well, that's surprising! I may give them another listen.

I don't know yet. I will be checking it out though. If you say he was that good. That's some big points for him :)

My favorite current band is Vanden Plas. They are my favorite band because I dug their shit four albums ago and they have only gotten better with each release, but only slightly as every release was incredible from then forward. If you have never heard Vanden Plas, try anything from "The God THing" forward. If you don't like it, don't waste your time with other releases. If you do, get all of them.

Saxon, Motorhead, Death Angel, Wolf, Skyclad, Amorphis to name a few. I don't know how many of those will continue to get better each year, but for me a clear examples of bands going forward always.

Cool that you like Amorphis, Wyv. They are an awesome band, it's just too bad Pasi left the show!

And as for the topic, I'll say that NOBODY gets better after their peak success. The best I have seen is maintaining a plateu of quality throughout the years and my vote goes for Ronnie James Dio. Yes, you can argue that his best was with Rainbow and Black Sabbath (and NO WAY I'll argue that point! :D ), but he has put out a lot of quality consistently and that has gone through his most recent release, "Master Of The Moon".

uhm.....Black Sabbath did that with Ozzy, Sepultura till they went to shit when Max left, Slayer did it thenn divine came out, uhm i know no1 likes them but Coal Chamber, Iced Earth, and Shadows Falls, all that I can think of right now

Tell me about it :erk: . "Far From The Sun" was among my top ten in 2003, I predicted a brilliant future and then this happens, bummer :bah:

Priest, despite undeniable bumps in the road, have been somewhat consistant, and please Sixx and Hawk, don't hurt me....but really, the only Savatage album i don't like is Fight For The Rock. I find the others to be 31/2 to 5 star fares. I was born a 'Tage fan, i shall die a 'Tage fan.

Hey Bryant. I'm listening to Vanden Plas right now ;) Great band indeed.

Cool. Vanden Plas probably wouldn't qualify as "oldschool" but there is something to be said for consistant quality and Vanden Plas hasn't failed me in 5 years. A band that can impress fans release after release without releasing the same album over and over again is certainly worth mentioning. It will be a dark day for me when that band calls it quits.

Also throw in Tad Morose. :) I can't think of any others right now.

Oh shit dude, I don't know why they didn't come to mind right away. It is so ashamed that Tad Morose is so unknown even in their own country. If they are able to top "Modus Vivendi" I won't know if my heart could handle it. They are one kick ass band !!

Hey man! Don't worry about it. Taste in music is very personal. If you like Savatage say so! And kick the ass of anyone who unfairly attacks you because if it! :p

Tad Morose ... Their First album isnt bad .. it Kinda has Shades of a Tony Martin Sabbath sound to it the Second ..haha it s just bad theres like 3 in between that I havnt heard yet but it seems since they got Urban Breed and the second Guitarist each Album has gotten Progressively Better Excellent Band and as Bryant said its a Shame they are not more well known, a truely Excellent and exceptional band!

Funny you would mention that album ... I like it ... Why? you ask ... because Criss Oliva plays on it and to me anything he played was gold :)
