My Dad used to listen to some old Prog/Rock stuff like Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, Genesis, Deep Purple, David Bowie, Jethro Tull, Nektar... this still has a huge influence on my taste (he has got plenty of LPs!!!)
He also used to listen to electronic stuff like Tangerine Dream, some Jazz, some (modern) Classical and some Pop, mostly Depeche Mode (I love their music, too...)
By the way: Pink Floyd brought me to "Rock", and now, perhaps 4 years later, I'm deep into all kinds of progressive music...
My mother is more into classical music...

My dad liked Zeppelin a lot. My mam was more into the likes of ABBA, both liked Motown which kicks arse and my gran dad was into Sinatra and classical stuff Vivaldi etc. I guess that where my taste for classical come from. None of them liked punk so i guess i've just adapted to that and my mam also liked all that 80's synth pop stuff liked Depeche Mode and Soft Cell which i also like now.

By the way...what the hell does CCM mean?!??

Its good for you that you don't know. It stands for Contemporary Christian Music. I'm not anti-Christian, but this shit blows. Some guy on an acoustic guitar either sings "we praise you" ad infinitum, or takes an otherwise good hymn, puts it in 4/4 and does everything in his or her power to make in the most boring thing ever. :yuk:
The average CCM song has 5 words and 3.5 chords for its duration.
I had to listen to this, because secular was just as bad as evil.

Music was always a huge thing in my household. My mother especially, she's worked in record stores mainly her whole life.
Growing up the main two were Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones and I still love them both.
My Dad loves the Stones, Everlast, Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. My mom loves everything...Tom Petty, The Allman Brothers, U2, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave (probably her favorite), Chris Cornell, Metallica (went to a show with her), Kanye West, Liz Phair, John Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt. I'm trying to get her into Fear Factory and Ascension of the Watchers.

I was very lucky growing up and they always respected my taste in music.
