What does Borknagar mean?

so yeah, this is probably the typical newbie question. I just dicovered them yesterday and loved it, so what does the name mean?

Well, it means nothing. It's meant to be norse-sounding, and make people wonder what it means (I think). Works well, doesn't it?

Borknagar is a creature from an old norwegian story, if I remember correctly. I don't know exactly what it is though, as I can't find the story anywhere.

Hm, i´ve been asking this question many times for myself (at least once in this board), and i´ve always been told that it has no certain meaning. For germans, it just might sound like a norwegian name for "borkenkäfer", a small insect gnawing around in trees, this would be my favourite explanation, hihihi.

I've heard stories, that oystein named the band after a scottish lake... loch nagar or whatever...

No, the name really has no particular meaning.

to me i´t means " the gnawing of a bark" or = the chewing of a tree

Yeah, this is what it sounds like for German speakers, too, as has been mentioned quite a few times. "Borkennager" "Bark tree gnawer" etc.
