From Doom-metal.com: Funeral Doom
We use the term Funeral Doom to describe the most extreme split off of Death/Doom. These bands have taken the slowness and heaviness of Doom-metal to new extremes. Generally, the bands create very distorted and depressive yet dreamy music. Grunts or some totally distored version of that are also frequently used. These are the extremists when it comes to slowness and heaviness. The term comes forth from the way the music sounds as if it would fit a funeral or funeral proccession (often moving at the pace of a funeral march).

Funeral Doom is allright sometimes...I feel the same way about Drone. To me, they're both really music for mood, while I can listen to Doom Metal or more rock-oriented "stoner" Doom anytime.

If music genre has compositional elements of metal, it´s metal....and funeral doom has them, hasn´t it?
Check out "The Sins Of Thy Beloved "

I think Shape of Despair is classified as Funeral Doom, but many would disagree cause a lot of their stuff sounds kinda "happy." But maybe they'd be a good starting point if you wanted to check out the genre. "Quiet These Paintings Are" is a very beautiful, slow, long, doom song.

This is all very true. :Spin:

They're nowhere CLOSE to being better than D666. diS is one of those bands that was completely original and influenced a lot of GREAT, GREAT bands, but themselves aren't all that awesome. Maybe if they had made a second album they would have gotten better, but...
