even though i may be ripped as fuck. this is what i feel

i am not learning anything new D:

I was talking with Gareth on MSN, his main concern is that some n00bs come and just ask about "CAN BETTER GEAR DO MAKE SOUND BETTER AUTOMATICALLY?", just the whole turning into Gearslutz snob (not saying all Gearslutz guys are snobs, but just sometimes they are bit too gear obsessed for their own good) thing, and it's a sentiment I share.
A lot of guys here are proof that 90 per cent of it is in the knowledge, talent, experimentation and hard work. 15 grand gear isn't gonna save your turd and isn't gonna make you better at your shit. I think that's something that really needs to be emphasized.
Want to buy expensive shit? Sure, but learn how to use it.
I'm not exactly a pro myself, extremely far from it, but I realize it's not worth my time spending shit loads on gear if I don't have the necessary skills to be able to use it effectively.

I am not learning as much here as I was when I first started to come here. I make a fair few threads but not many people listen, and I think it is because my stuff is heaps different to what is normally getting posted, and it isn't anywhere near as high quality.

I mainly just go into threads and listen to people's stuff out of interest to what it sounds like basically these days. I know I haven't been here too long though.

Yeah I am with you on that too. I don't have a ridiculous post count, but I have been coming to this forum for years and years now. And it has slowly turned into a ton of shootouts about gear and talk of like you said, whats better and whats not. And theres a bunch of shitty attitudes and just downright disrespectful shit said back and forth to each other. Its lame. Hopefully shit will get better. Who knows? Either way keep rockin' broders.:headbang:

By the way I'm really sick too of hearing all these tone tests with the Holy Diver DI's, realllly nice from him to share them, but I don't understand why everyone use them instead of taking 5 minutes to write their own riff.

and besides lasse is amazing i would never slam on him

and i do love snare 12 and kick 10, but man,

i am trying to play with new shit and all.

i dunno man, you gotta account for the natural learning curve. you get on here and at first you learn a ton... but you cant keep up that pace. so its gonna slow down.

i must say i've learned alot here and am still learning new things regularly. i'm no pro and i never intend to be an AE. i'm just a writer/musician trying to learn as much as i can about the process to facilitate my songwriting. but i am far enough along that i'm proud of my work. and i still learn new stuff on here all the time. from cabinet speaker recommendations to heavy vox production tricks to optimizing your cpu for audio production tips.

as for the attitudes and fighting, just ignore them and enjoy the good stuff. sure there's alot of bs going on in some sections... but thats what those sections are there for. dont let those spoil the good sections on here.

FWIW, i'm finishing a mix with snare 15 blended with the original track...

SO PUT THAT IN YER PIPE AND SMOKE IT

Yeah I have given the Holy Diver DI's a workout, but for what I think is a valid reason. I use them because they are accessible to ALL and therefore everyone can use them with their own setup (Real or Sim). They can then compare their tone to others with the same starting point (less variables). That's my excuse/reasoning.

If you've been on any forum for any serious bit of time (longer than 1 year and 2 months, Ryan =P), you know that all forums, hell - all social gatherings or events of any kind go through phases. They ebb and they flow. Sometimes it's good, sometimes... not so great. We're just in a downswing right now. It'll pick up before long, I'm positive.

That's a good point, I didn't see it like this. It's just that for a while it seemed like EVERY tone test in rate my mix was with the holy diver DI's, I just can't stand this song anymore haha. And I hope I didn't offend you, I wasn't pointing this at you, it was just my opinion in general :err:
