This thread is killing it
J. is cracking me up
Ftr, I read his first post and knew exactly what he was talking about. He wasn't pointing at anyone here in particular either. When you're a parent and you get to know people your age who are NOT parents, eventually you have the conversation about kids and the sentiments he touched upon as the reasons the non-parents typically give for their situation are honestly pretty accurate.
And if they DO come up with something altruistic like "oh kids will keep me from stopping AIDS in Africa" it's complete bullshit. What they mean is "oh, I like getting up at 10 am every day even though I'm 40 years old and don't want some child to interfere with that"
Yes. This. I just read this. The important point he's making is the *to parents* part
Nothing wrong with not wanting to have kids, though.
I hope everyone sees that as a given
I respect the hell out of Jeff for sticking it out for the kids. That's what couples used to do back in the day when such a thing as "family values" still existed. If one makes decision to have some progeny, then your own personal needs need to be set aside. Everyone's such a selfish fuck nowadays, which is fine, just as long as you're not procreating.
literally the only alternative to having your entire existence consumed by the care of children right hereand the people that do have kids that say they wish they didnt are complete liars. sure they might have a nostalgic moment wishing they were playing beer pong and watching porn on the projector in a meaningless existence
The wife and I had a discussion two nights ago where it was suggested that I make more money and/or work more hours
Just wanted to throw that one in the mix
Ftr, it was an accurate observation...but a little demoralizing considering the suggestion came from the person whose financial decisions are the ones now necessitating that I need to make more money and/or work more hours
